CHIAROT TO LAK PLUS DROUIN BYRON OFFSEASON BUYOUTS WITH PRICE PETRY TO DETROIT

Created by: nilees24
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 3, 2022
Published: Mar. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
*To be brutally fair, Ben Chiarot is worth more than a 1st rd pick at the trade deadline. I'm certain that Marc Bergevin will whisper in the GM's ear in LA how amazing Chiarot was in their playoff run last year.

** As for Carey Price, the most likely outcome this off-season is he ends up 100% healthy by June. As well, taking into consideration that the Habs are going through a 'reset' over the next 2 seasons, it's very likely that Carey Price will request a trade this off-season. A 2-team trade will probably result in the Habs retaining half of Price's contract (5.25/yr for 4 yrs) which the Habs will not pursue. Only likely trade imo is a 3-way deal that includes Arizona. Only other possible suitors for Price (at 6 mill/yr) is Seattle and Colorado .... but for me it's Detroit. And to be fair, a 100% Carey Price in 2022 is better than Nedeljkovic in 2022.

***Jeff Petry's family lives in Detroit and he's from Ann Arbor. The Red Wings will likely depart with DeKeyser, Leddy, and Staal which leaves tonnes of cap room for Detroit to entertain a healthy Carey Price and Jeff Petry on their roster this off-season.

Kings are not likely to buy a rental.

Also with Edler coming back this month and Maatas game improving, it's unlikely they are in on Chiarot. I also don't believe the Kings are giving up on Vilardi and Spence just yet. Wagner though, absolutely.

I'm not sure what the reasoning is for the Flames to downgrade on D, give up the better piece in the deal with more potential/

Quick pulldown that Chariot trade before LAK fans riot
Spence has more upside then Durzi as he's a 1 man army
Durzi is great Support for a top guy like Petry
Spence is an undispute #1 like Doughty he's a leader

He's played on a lot of good teams as he's a great Mobile D with a clean 2 line pass

To be fair... Chiarot is NOT worth a 1st rounder, much less more than that. Plenty of stats behind it. It's just the massive machine that is Montreal media feeding it to Montreal's benefit.

LA Kings are tired of your ridiculous offers and asks every single Montreal fan on this site to forget the LA Kings are an option as a trade.

Holy moly, I want some of what ya'll are smoking.

There's only a handful of players in the NHL that are worth a 1st round pick as a TDL rental. Chiarot is not one of them.

Literally every Analyst has said he's going to get a 1st plus
Its not about Value its about the Market and there's a big need with few options

You got Ristolinen on a bad year for the 2nd or 3rd straight year on his 2nd team who got a 1st ,2nd and Hagg for the same reason as he's a RD of which few are available traditionally
Another way to put it is Hanzal wasnt worth a 1st, 2nd and 3rd nor was Plekanec in a career low at that point worth a 2nd and 2 Prospects but they got it as they were the best available options with high demand from teams around the league looking to win a cup. There's tons of examples of this yearly with the only way you could miss it being if you ignored it intentionally

1. Chiarot is (unfortunately) most likely gonna fetch a first at the deadline, but the Kings have better options like Chychrun or Giordano.
2. Carey Price has stated many times that he wants to stay in Montreal, regardless of the team's status.
3. Flames aren't giving up on Valimaki for somebody with less potential and less skill.
4. Giving Letang the C as soon as he signs is a VERY questionable move.

Tony Marinaro said on Habs Podcast he want out (Price) .
He wanted Seattle to select him.
Letang can hold the C while you hold his beer .

You're right in that it only takes one GM dumb enough to make a trade. The Risto trade was universally panned from everyone NOT from Philadelphia. And even then, Philly fans have come around to how bad Risto is. One example like that doesn't define a market, it defines a cautionary tale for GMs NOT to overpay for overhyped players.

"Literally every Analyst"... Like Dom Luszczyszyn who (while I don't agree with everything he writes) is the premier analyst and number cruncher at the premier sports information outlet (The Athletic)?

Here are some of my favorites from his article here:

https://theathletic.com/3147253/2022/02/24/the-numbers-behind-the-names-analyzing-the-trade-deadline-big-board/

"I’ve never seen the market price so out of step with the numbers. Every year there are a few players that are overhyped or overpriced, sure, but never like this with Chiarot."
and

"You can draw a straight line between “Montreal is one of the league’s worst teams” and “Chiarot is playing 23 minutes per night.” Just because he’s doing it, doesn’t mean he’s doing a good job with it."
and

"He’s grossly miscast on a top pair and while there’s an argument to be made for his value increasing if placed in the right context, the context would have to be extra welcoming to make up for his current projected minus-0.9 wins of value."
and

"Chiarot, by any way that can be measured right now, is a net negative value player. He’s a detriment that is more likely to hurt whatever team he joins by virtue of a limited skill set that will have his team chasing the puck more often than not, and killing any semblance of offence."
