Thoughts about interesting offseason trade

Created by: EEEEE15

Description
Say both avs and leafs once again fail to go as far as they pike in the playoffs could this benefit both teams. This is the base players for the trade. Who adds and how much do they add? There was also a rumour some time ago though it might've been false, that girard would be on the market if that got them a difference making forward with some term. Let me know your thoughts, just an idea I wanted to know about.

That’s interesting. Here is my take as an Avs fan, Girard makes $2M less and is locked up for 5 more years 3 more than Nylander at a cost controlled amount. COL imo is rightly asking for more, what that is depends it would have to be NHL ready type of add though. Ultimately though I think that extra $2M is a really big hurdle for the Avs, that assures probably that both Kadri and Burakovsky would be gone in the off season. A guy like Beauviller makes more sense for the Avs in a Girard trade tbh.

Nylander is the better player but Girard has the edge in age, cap hit, term, position

I'd be willing to add a bit if I was Sakic

Hell no. Nylander makes more and is locked up for half the duration.

That plays a less important position that Avs can just re-sign Burakovsky for less and not have to deal with hole his departure would cause. That $2M and all the extra term matters. Especially in a flat cap environment.

This.

Nylander is electric offensively but often looks completely disengaged defensively. Burky is very streaky, but even when he's not scoring, he's not a liability in his own end.

Trust me when I say that the whole disengaged defensively narrative is absolute bs. Maybe 2 years ago that was true, but the media just says that because he'll poke check and lift sticks instead of smashing someone through the board. That's another thing I'd also take under consideration. Away from Toronto media criticizing his every move, Nylander would absolutely thrive in Colorado. Also, if you've ever watched a lot of leafs games, he is so insanely good at entering the zone and is always at top of the league in zone entry stats. Imagine the threat of having like someone like Makar playing with Nylander. That avs team is actually so skilled its unfair.

Colorado would definitely have to add.

Toronto shouldn't consider

Edit: people saying no from Colorado are proving this website is broken

$2M more per season then 3 years of nothing. That is a steep ass price. I wouldn’t touch it Girard’s contract is gold and being willing to flush 3 years of it is crazy.

Say Leafs go out In first round again, why wouldn't they try to base a trade off like this. Girard is also a young player like Nylander so your not even getting older.

Not saying that this is one for one, but you gotta look at the fact girard got more term and they get about 2 mil in cap space along with some other parts. Leafs most likely not gonna be able to afford Willy with Matthews contract ending at the same time.

2 million is not significant, the cap is going to start going up and they already afford both.

Not position wise it isn’t. What do you think a top pairing quality dman is going for in 3yrs? I know that when Nylander is due another contract COL can count on 3 more years of Girard as his current hit. All of which is in Girard’s prime. And considering COL is going to be locked into MacK Mikko Landy and Newhook I’ll take the certainty of that d piece locked in long term all day long.

Based on what? The agreement between the players Union and the owners was the owners would make back the losses. How many Canadian franchises have been playing to 1/2 filled arena’s because of restrictions? I think it’s beyond optimistic to think the cap is going to go up by more than $1M a pop, and throw in COL is going to give MacK a monster deal, Byram and Newhook will get new deals $2M a season is a very significant amount.

I don’t know enough to comment on fairness/value, but this is a very interesting proposal.

I’m a Nylanderthal, though, so I’d have to say the Leafs don’t do this trade.

His zone entries are a thing of beauty. I consistently notice Nylander’s plethora of ways to enter the o-zone.

Id do both Kaut and Bowers tbh. I was thinking more like a Helleson level add (in terms of value), although it might not be wise to move out two D men without getting one in return
