Not sure why a 2nd round pick wouldn’t be a reasonable return given the direction the jets are going and the fact that he’s literally been a bottom pairing defensemen his whole career

Well he is one of the top defensive defenseman in the NHL currently with term and is on the top pairing with Morrisey. As well the jets are heading to a retool and DeMelo is a player you keep for what he brings and currently there is zero need to move him and for them to move him it will have to be a worthy return. A second and Justin Holl is not a return they want nor does it make the team better.

Your team explanation sums it up fairly well. The Jets have no reason to move DeMelo unless someone makes it worth their while, so a bare minimum offer probably doesn't catch their attention at the TDL.

In the summer if the Jets need to move him for cap reasons then they can look at bare minimum offers.

I agree and I hope you're right. I would only want the Jets to move him if they need cap space due to an upgrade.

Jets could use some team control assets, someone that has potential for top 6 or a monster rhd, not sure if they are great trade partners for leafs, what’s up with Robertson, I thought he had some mega upside?

Why not take a 2nd now and move on, they're going to need cap space and really need to retool this lineup, selling low in the summer would be a dumb idea.

Copp and Stastny willbe gone after this season so there is 7 million free is cap space. As well losing a guy like DeMelo is hard to replace. It wouldbe easier to move Pionk or Scmidt as the team has Chisholm and Heinola ready. Nothing on the right side to replace DeMelo.

Why though? The Jets can easily get the same returns offered in the threads here for the TDL, in the summer. So why not wait until then?

I'm not against moving him, but I'd prefer the Jets do it for an upgrade. You never know what will be available or who will be moving in the summer, so just wait it out and see if he can be used in a larger deal, if they need to move him. There's just no reason to move him for the sake of moving him.

Now if someone wants to offer something that makes it worth the Jets while, that's different.

I just don't want to move DeMelo for a second and a lump of coal like Dermott or Holl. The Jets might as well get something they can use instead of a 2nd and deadweight.

Hes a lot more replaceable. Heinola can take his job easily.

this is an easy no from the leafs given the title. however if the jets didn't want to "give up" on him then an offer like this is improbable but possible

Haha... Gawd no he can't, if there's a Jet that should be on the trade block its Heinola.

Liljegren and a 1st for DeMelo… depending on what Lil wants on his next contract, I’d do it

Even if Liligren wants 850k **** it if the Jets offered this go for it

Demelo is a defensive defenseman we should have traded for years ago. Is from Ontario and is another candidate to be Rielly's D partner allowing Brodie to slide next to Muzzin. Giving Muzzin the puck moving Partner he needs.
