RFA Trades

Created by: KingDavis
Team: 2021-22 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 4, 2022
Published: Mar. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think NJ would benefit from making a Buchnevich/Reinhart like acquisitions. So I looked at upcoming RFAs and tried to make some trades using the Buchnevich/Reinhart model. I would only want ONE of these trades to happen, not all.

Everyone has already made their Brock Boeser to NJ trades so I’m not going to include him. Players that I considered that I didn’t trade for are Kempe, Laine, Dubois, and Mangiapane. Just didn’t think any of them would be available.
Trades
1.
NJD
  1. Fiala, Kevin
Additional Details:
Definitely at the top of my list. Though Minny will likely find a way to resign him, but if they can’t and decide to trade him then NJ would absolutely be interested.
MIN
  1. Boqvist, Jesper
  2. 2023 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Honestly not quite sure what Minny would want so I gave them a 2023 top 10 protected 1st round pick (if pick lands in top 10, Minny gets 2024 unprotected 1st), and a young versatile forward in Boqvist (though you could swap him with any young NHL ready player).
2.
NJD
  1. McCann, Jared
Additional Details:
Again, don’t know if he is even available, but if he is then I’d imagine NJ would be calling.
SEA
  1. Foote, Nolan
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
The 2022 2nd will likely be a top 6 selection in the 2nd round and Seattle gets NJ’s 5th ranked prospect (according to The Athletic) who could step into their NHL team next season.
3.
NJD
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
Additional Details:
Not the flashiest player but could look nice on Jack’s wing. Can add picks if needed.
EDM
  1. Smith, Ty
Additional Details:
Edmonton could use some defence and Ty Smith is a young, cheap option for their third pair next season. Can add picks if needed.

I would be surprised if edm was willing to move JP. Another player I would add to this list is Kasperi Kapanen

While I would much rather we keep Fiala, I think this is a fair deal, although I imagine we'd prefer a 2022 1st over a 2023 first (but I also understand that the Devils are sitting with the 5th best lottery odds and they shouldn't move that pick). Still think the Senators are a better fit if they're willing to move their 1st for Fiala

The way Minnesota is going, fiala might get traded @ deadline and if he's, we will have better offer

Wild trade is fair but Fiala would have to come with an extension
McCann will likely get a bigger return from another team
I think Oilers decline

Edmonton doesn't need smallish dmen, they have plenty of young LHD and they need Puljujarvi WAY more then a Ty Smith type dman.

The extension would come right after the move most likely. Teams don’t usually extend and trade but often teams/agents discuss what can transpire after the move is made. Aside from that I agree 💯 with you on the 3 trades

Fair enough. Thought process was Edmonton trying to free up some space to go after one of the bigger free agents like Forsberg, Hertl, or Kuemper.

Yeah this is assuming Fiala comes with an extension which I imagine it would.
I’m not sure about McCann. Like not even a year ago he got traded for Hallander. Seattle’s prospect pool is bad since they’re new so if they’d rather another prospect not named Holtz, Hughes, or Shakir then I’d be down with that.
I read somewhere (maybe The Athletic?) that Puj could be available so that’s why I added him. Figured Edmonton could use the space for a goalie or upgrade at winger.

I have a feeling Fiala would extend in NJ but just to be safe and make sure he doesn't go to arbitration, an extension would be needed
McCann is having a very solid year. On pace for just shy of 60 points. Only reason his value was so low was because of the expansion draft.
JPP was having a decent year and they would want someone to play on McDavid's wing so I doubt they move him. Maybe they move a forward like Yammamoto instead

Yeah McCann is having a good year but I just don’t see Seattle getting a first round pick for him. Especially since Buchnevich didn’t. Could always replace Foote with Zacha or Boqvist instead.
Edmonton doesn’t have a lot of cap space and Puj is going to cost more than Yamamoto which is why I could see them exploring the market for Puj instead. Also why I gave them a young, cheap NHL player in return. Maybe they’d rather Boqvist+ ?

Is it against the rules? I see Deb fans posting in Ranger trades that don't involve the Debs. Can't have it both ways.

I see 19 wins in 55 games, not so elite. But hey, if players personal stats are how you define success for your team, good for you I guess.

I was comparing two players (Kakko and Hughes)
Why would I compare their team wins? Instead of their personal stats
