TDL and Offseason

Created by: Christian17
Team: 2022-23 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 7, 2022
Published: Mar. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For the draft I'm going to say that the Ducks slide a lot after trading one of their top 2 D, their 3rd D and one of their best forwards. They end up drafting 10th, the rest of the picks I just took from tankathon's rankings.

10th-Frank Nazar
17th-Isaac Howard
24th-Alex Perevalov
42nd -Luca Del Bel Belluz
58th-Viktor Neuchev

By selling now and aiming for next season to really push for the playoffs the Ducks would make themselves the #1 prospect pool in the league with a decent position for long-time contention.

Trades
1.
ANA
  1. 2022 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Oilers should make this trade right away. With a healthy lineup they end up with a top 9 of:

EK-Dra-Pul
Rak-McD-Yam
Foe-RNH-Hyman

Imo that makes them, at the very least, capable of facing off against every top 9 in the Pacific. Rakell's cheap contract and 50% retained makes him uniquely capable of fitting into EDM's top 9 and cap.
EDM
  1. Rakell, Rickard
Additional Details:
50% retained
2.
ANA
  1. Liljegren, Timothy [RFA Rights]
  2. Ovchinnikov, Dmitry
  3. 2022 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
This is about the going price for a top pairing Dman which is what teams view Lindholm as.

This will allow the Leafs to run:

Rielly-Brodie
Lind-Holl
Derm-Lybushkin

Until Muzzin is back.
TOR
  1. Lindholm, Hampus

Additional Details:
Hextall almost got him last year and according to Jeff Marek, the rumored return was 1st rd pick.

  1. 2022 5th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Because Bob Murray is their player analyst for trades and he LOVES Grant.
6.

Additional Details:
AZ gets a good young player, a prospect, and a 1st round pick.
ARI
  1. Colangelo, Sam [Reserve List]
  2. Lundeström, Isac
  3. 2022 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Lundestrom is at peak trade value right now and the Ducks should capitalize on it. I personally think he will regress, but the main narrative I'm hearing from hockey talk is that he'll end up being like a Danault.
7.
ANA
  1. DeBrusk, Jake [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Not a trade, I don't see Boston qualifying DeBrusk at $4.85M so he becomes a UFA and the Ducks sign him.

Why does Lindholm as a Rental fetch about an equal return as Chychrun?

Lindholm is probably spot on, But Chychrun gets a better return then that. And the 10th pick belongs to Detroit Anaheim holds the 14th pick right now.

Too much for Lindholm, you don't get a 1st and an NHL ready RD prospect that looks like a solid #4 for the foreseeable future for a rental.

That Pens trade is an absolute joke. Deslaurier is worth a 5th and that Pens/Deslaurier rumor turned out to be BS.

I dont see Boston QOing DeBrusk at $4.85 million either....but that's because his QO is $4.4 million. With the way he's playing right now they'll QO him.

Nooo you don’t trade away an Isac Lundestrom. Make it Comtois. Lundestrom is so underrated, totally not at his peak. He’s going to anchor the Ducks third line for years to come. He’s an awesome 2-way forward that continues to improve, and a great complement to our other future #1 and #2 centers in Zegras and McTavish. He goes nowhere. Z, McTavish, Terry, Lundestrom, and Drys are untouchable.

so you're one those people who think Lundestrom is the next Samuel Pahlsson?

Jokes aside read the description. If there is a young guy that should be traded its Lundestrom. His value will be the highest it will ever be and lets be honest he's not great. Although I would make the argument that his play is diminished by Dallas Eakins and the way he deploys his lines but in no way he's a shutdown center. He will be a fine two-way forward but if we could ever trade him into a player like Chychrun you do it no questions asked. Moreover, trading Comtois rn would be a mistake. Let try and build his value up.

Not advocating for these guys to be moved, especially since some of these trades are unrealistic but you need to reevaluate Lundestrom. I think hes overrated and I would cite this comment as an example.

For me it depends on how high AZ values Lundestrom, because some of the commentaries I hear about him is like he's going to be a high-level shutdown C netting 45-55pts a season. But if they value him where i think he is, yeah i could see ANA throwing in an additional 2nd rd pick.

Do you think he gets that after one hot streak? No sweat off my back if he does sign with BOS, the other guy I think the Ducks should target if not DeBrusk would be Roy from VGK (since they have 0 cap space) or Lehkonen from MTL (who somehow also have no cap space). Both would probably sign similar contracts to DeBrusk's next one.

No, it didn't, the trade got canceled because Bob Murray was pissy that it was reported before it was made. But Jeff Marek reported that the pricing for DLo was a 1st and that the trade almost went through.

It's 100% an outrageous price, but GMs are stupid and PIT has made this kinda dumb trade before (see Reaves trade).

He was playing well before he offense exploded, the difference was he was playing with bottom 6 players. There were games where he could have had multiple assist but his linemate missed an easy goal. Once they slid him up with guys that don't miss, his points started to rack up.

Rakell tends to disappear in the playoffs, I don't think anyone will give you a first let alone Edmonton. They likely go after a defenseman with that pick - if they're even in the playoff race at the deadline.

You do know Rutherford is no longer our GM, right? We now have Hextall who's the COMPLETE opposite of Rutherford, so regardless, your idea no longer makes any sense.

Go try to fleece someone else.

I can’t tell you what league consensus is on him as to whether he’s overrated or not. What I can say is he’s playing great hockey, looks the part, and is improving every year. He’s a 22 year old first round pick typically playing with mediocre line mates, I have no idea why you would assume he is peaking right now and will regress. He looks as good as his stats suggest on the ice every night, and plays consistent hockey. His points aren’t a fluke. And if you could trade him high and get great value? Sure, I’d trade anyone under those conditions if you were truly getting great value. Is Chychrun good value? Sure. But not when you’re throwing a first round pick in there. Two guys who were drafted relatively reasonably for their value 7 picks apart in drafts 2 years apart, and you’re throwing in a first round pick to get older by a year and move up 7 spots. I don’t see great value anywhere in it. I keep Lundy

I think he'll regress because he's shooting +20% right now and he and Silfverberg currently hold the worst xGF% and CF% on the team. However, for some reason, his reputation is exploding this year, despite the fact that his numbers haven't been ideal and his counting stats aren't sustainable. So personally I think the Ducks should sell high for a 23-year-old top 4 D with term who can slide in where Lindholm was, and let one of Steel, Groulx, or another prospect fill out the 3rd line C role that Lundestrom would hold in the future. Chychrun is far more valuable to a team than Lundestrom.

To counter your corsi stat, he starts his shifts in the dzone more than 2/3 of the time, more than any other duck. His relative corsi makes total sense. Corsi just highlights the difference in shot attempts, so if he’s starting way more shifts in the dzone he’s going to have more shot attempts against. He plays on the PK more than almost any other duck forward, look at his PK corsi, it’s the best among forwards who have any decent sample size. If you cherry pick numbers it’s easy to shade him, but he’s solid defensively. Watch him in a game, he’ll pass the eye test too.

His shooting percentage is high for sure. But take away a couple goals and I’m still happy with his performance. His shots would be higher if he started more shifts in the offensive zone, but as much as you don’t seem to want to admit it, he is deployed defensively an overwhelming amount of the time. He’ll grow a lot in that role too since he’s like 5 years away from his prime. Again, Lundestrom for Chychrun? Sure. But Lundestrom + a 1st for Chychrun? Nah I’ll definitely pass.

Steel hasn’t looked good at center at the NHL level at all, and Grouxl still needs to prove himself at the NHL level at all, let alone at center.
