Selling UFAs and a Hockey Trade

Created by: RpMReloaded
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 13, 2022
Published: Mar. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade Info:

Pittsburgh Trade: Pittsburgh receives a solid D-man with playoff experience. I feel that a 2nd is the going rate for a player of his caliber. Fedun is a respected vet for a depleted AHL defensive squad.

NYR Trade: Could be anywhere, but Eakin is good at faceoffs and has playoff experience. That's about all he's good at, but I feel a GM will look back at his Vegas run and be willing to give a 5th for 50% retained.

Edmonton Trade: The Oilers get a defensive-defenseman to shore up their defense core and a goalie who has played well behind a poor Buffalo squad. However, a large part of this trade is also dumping Mikko Koskinen, which adds a 3rd to the acquisition cost for Hagg and Anderson.

Toronto Trade: Pysyk is a solid Top-6 defensive defenseman with good analytics for a team who has given up 4+ goals in 6 straight. A 3rd and Malgin, who has shown no wish to return to Toronto, seems like decent value. I think the Sabres would like to resign Pysyk in the offseason.

Blackhawks Trade: It was reported last trade deadline that the Blackhawks were interested in Anders Bjork. Ian Mitchell was a promising RHD prospect who has somewhat stalled, and the Sabres are desperate for RHD prospects. The pick swap attempts to assuage the Blackhawks concerns for giving up a formerly highly touted prospect (They get a pick only a few later then they picked Mitchell with). Both players are RFAs after next season. Chicago fans, let me know if this is way off.

Obviously not a professional GM nor an expert on other teams, thoughts would be appreciated.

Fair enough. Would this be a scenario where Mitchell is just off the table, or a 'add more'. I'm not sure how you guys see him. He looks like a 50/50 chance to be a solid NHLer to me.

Oilers decline. Maybe if it was Smith going to Buffalo and dropping one of the picks they might accept.

Smith+3rd for Anderson.

I’ll say this if Chicago were to trade Mitchell it would be apart of a larger trade or potential a swap in prospects but he’s not going anywhere at the moment

I think Buffalo would do that trade, assuming that no one would give up a 3rd straight up. No interest in dumping Koskinen/acquiring Hagg?

Koskinen can be a solid goalie when run in a proper tandem hopefully Anderson fills the role better then Smith has this year.

As for Hagg, Oilers have like 4 guys that can play 3rd pairing LD I think if they make a move for a Dman he should be able to play in the top 4

Thankfully that GM has departed cause this deal is horrible for CHI. Mitchell is developing nicely on the top line in the AHL. Confidence is being built and theres a good chance he is NHL ready next year

Sabres could do another swap rd for forward prospect? Mitchell for Marcus Davidson. Davidson was a higher pick same draft.

That idea might work, but definitely not for Marcus Davidsson. The Sabres don't even own his rights anymore. Maybe for someone like Prokhor Poltapov (Pick #31 in 2021), but I don't think the Sabres would do that.

I was making a Joki for Nylander joke...but that's suggested trade might work.

That went completely over my head, lol. Would 100% take another trade like that though.
