I don’t mind the idea, but I think I would hold out for less cost or something shinier for 4x40 million. Odds are there’s probably at least one expensive back up year and possibly an immediate down year gamble.

While Bob's overpaid, he has also been excellent and Knight is no where near starter level yet. While they are contending I dont see any situation where Florida makes this trade

Barkovs deal kicks in this year and huberdeau is expiring. They can clear this cap and find a less expensive goalie to bridge to knight

I agree it's an interesting idea and if he had 2 years left on his deal I would do this in a heartbeat, but we will be saddled with this contract and in 2 - 3 years basically our entire roster will need new deals with the exception of Tuch and Skinner

No chance. That contract is straight poison.

The only time it's remotely a problem for us is the last year and by then the cap will have gone up and we buy him out or trade him with retention, if we even have to do that

And the cap will have gone up and we will have a massive influx of ELCs from the 2021-2023 drafts and the buy out after 3 years is a one year hit

What you say is true BUT what if Bob bombs in the playoffs like he has done plenty of times in the past other than the 18-19 playoffs.

In 2 years there is a new deal for Dahlin, Jokiharju, Thompson, Cozens, Samuelsson, Peterka, Quinn, Krebs, Aspkund all on the books. Some of those salary bumps will be much more significant than the cap increases

We will have 55 million in cap space before any increase to the salary cap

Trade is spicy and bold. I like it.
I don't like the idea of Cozens and Peterka together though. They both drive transitional play really well so they should be on separate lines.

A $10mil goalie who’s having a decent season- not good, not great- for 4 more years???

That’s just a terrible idea

.916 save% this year, on a really good team isn’t all that impressive to me. Especially when he barely cracked .900 the 2 seasons before

Pass, pass, pass on this idea

We might have 20 more points with a .916 svp%

That’s a bit of an exaggeration
But we can also get a .916 goalie who doesn’t have a $10mil cap hit

We also don’t need to do FLA the favor of getting out from under that horrible contract either

We've lost 9 games where we had a 2 goal lead, but in no way would I trade for that contract. Dahlin and Tage could cost some cheddar in a few years. Go get DK for 3yrs

You say that like this is the only answer, why not move Hornqvist?

They only need the relief for this summer, then Yandle contract provides a bunch of space
