Nate Schmidt makes slightly less than $6,000,000 x 3 years. So i'm pretty sure Yzerman has spoken to Chevy about him.

Do you honestly thing Ottawa, or any team in that position, is going to make that trade?

It depends, when you look at different draft pick value charts if the picks were 14th and 28th and Ottawa's pick was 5OA or lower than yes they should make that trade based on the value of the picks they get but that just says it's a fair deal, they'd need to like the players in those tiers as well.

I'm not sure what fair trade would be, but a team in Ottawa's position should be looking for the player that can make an impact sooner than later and those are typically found in the top of the first round. Ottawa has quantity, lots of young guys coming up, they need quality.

I like this but I'd try for a 2nd from Detroit and I'd trade Stanley to the Kings for Helge Grans instead. I get that you did that to get the pick back to offersheet Poolparty but True North would never do that and also I think the offer is low. Maybe just trade the 2023 1st for him if you want him.

I'd also have Kovacevic over Heinola at 3RD.

I'm already not a Dorion fan... I'd be fuming

Sens need a top-6 RW and a top-4 RD and will be set. Much better chance to find one of these pieces with a 6th OA pick.

Schmidt trade is the one which has to happen. Chevy should of never traded for him and his contract.
Patrick for Vesalainen is the one I like to see. Don't know if McCrimmon will trade Patrick for just Vesalainen- there is some history there.

The Game Score Value Added (GSVA) of the picks:

7.6 - Ottawa #6 overall
4.9 - Winnipeg #15 overall
3.4 - Rangers #25 overall

So it is a slight overpay (0.7) by the Jets which could be almost balanced out by an Ottawa 4th round pick (0.5 GSVA)

Edit: GSVA numbers from The Athletic.

Schmidt would be a good veteran to pair with Seider and to run our PP2 so it's a good deal for Detroit.

I like this but I'd try for a 2nd from Detroit .

Detroit have several other options besides Schmidt so it may not be a good idea to be too greedy.

There's Pettersson in PIT and they're forced to sell at whatever price they can get. There's also Martinez and Scandella that are likely to have picks coming with them as cap dumps. There are a few options in FA too.

Won’t get a 2nd for Schmidt. I’d try for a 3rd + 4th, but I’d settle for a 3rd
Oilers won’t trade Puljujarvi for a 1st, when they need him. The OS pries him out with a minimal return.
Heinola needs to play or be traded… he’s wasted in the AHL and press box

Which is fair. We only paid a 3rd for him last offseason after an abysmal year in Vancouver so I think his value has gone up since then but really at a 3rd we re-coup what we paid. He has a no trade clause we'd need to navigate too and I have no clue if he'd be open to going to Detroit or not. It would be his 4th team in 4 years.

Well, he would be paired with Seider and play the second PP, that may influence him enough to OK a deal.
