Description
Darren Dreger recently reported that the Winnipeg Jets would be doing a full audit of their organization this summer. They will look at every position in managemenn and coaching staff, as well as players. The Jets are an organization that has to sell tickets to stay afloat. We’ve seen a drop in attendance already and they’re doing a huge push for season tickets. Something they’ve never really had to do. In fact they had let go of almost all of their ticket sales staff as it was never an issue. With these attendance drops, change will come as the team needs to sell the product to the fans. I see some big changes coming for the first time in a long time.

First order of business IMO is locking up PLD. He’s the perfect fit for Kyle Connor and there’s no reason to not want to keep those guys together long term. I feel like Dubois gets around what couturier got, but wouldn’t be surprised if he got 8x8.

Second, and nearly as important as the first step, the jets have to address the elephant in the room which is Mark Scheifele. Not only has he struggled defensively this year, he’s abandoned lowrys systems and has just played his own way. An awful example to set as an assistant captain and “face” of the franchise. It’s time to move on from scheifele. I feel like a draft day trade may be in the books. I feel like the teams that will be in the mix are BOS, CAR, FLA, NYR, NYI, CBJ. Mainly eastern conference teams as they’re going to realize they need to solidify themselves to compete in that conference. Florida is unlikely as they already have so much star power and not much cap space or assets. I decided to go with the islanders, again could be unrealistic due to their cap constraints. I feel like the main targets for Winnipeg likely are Dobson/Pulock. Which likely leads to an instant no, but I tried to build a package that might be of interest to the islanders. Jets fans likely won’t like the deal but to get a player like Dobson would be amazing. Islanders fans, I know you’ll hate it as well because Dobson is very good and I get that so don’t feel bad if you rip on me. I just thought with an aging islanders team and a closing window they may consider this. Also trotz is the perfect coach for Scheifele. Let me know what you think, I’m sure jets fans will think I’m overpaying/overvaluing Dobson, and islanders fans will likely say no and it makes sense. Let me know what it would take, I’m assuming Ehlers or Connor would be the request for Dobson.

I think a conversation has to be had with jets management and hellebuyck. I think it’s crucial to know what the situation is heading into next year in regards to him wanting to be in Winnipeg or not. There have been some reports that he doesn’t want to stay here, which can’t be confirmed so who knows what’s going on. He’s one of the few guys who actually showed heart and belief down the stretch.

I thought about signing trochek but it likely would take around 7 million to get him to go to Winnipeg. I just decided I’d use the 1 year stop gap in stastny so he can mentor Perfetti to take over that 2C role. Plus Ehlers and stastny have great chemistry.

No idea what they’ll do for coaching. My preference would be Pascal Vincent as he’s familiar with the team and players after coaching the Moose for a while. I’d imagine they’d interview Carlyle and Boudreau if Vancouver let’s him go. Bottom line with coaching is that they need to make wholesale changes. This team is in a very odd spot, they aren’t making the playoffs with this roster so they’d need to retool or make some big changes.

Ugh I know. Dobson is the exact player the jets need. I’d add even more to get him lol. Like I’m talking I’d give up scheifele, Lucius and Heinola just to get it close to done. Jets fans will hate to hear that but man I think Dobson is so good. Every GM would love to have a dman like him.

Jets should trade their 1st + Lucius and maybe their 2nd to move up and draft one of Jiricek/Nemec

If a team was willing to take the jets 1st and Heinola and another pick/prospect I’d 100% do it. I couldn’t justify giving 2 1sts though. I really like Lucius. Only way I’m moving him is if it’s in a package for a stud RD.

not to derail, but it's almost annoying that the year the Isles finally fall back in the lottery, two of the best prospects around their potential pick are guys at a position they're already stacked at.

that being said: if one of the two is available and someone behind us (in the teens let's say) wants to throw some extra picks our way to move up and grab them, it's hard for me to say no to that!

I think isles will pick in the 11-13 range. Jiricek and Nemec will both go in the top 8 IMO. I hope the isles pick one of Nazar, Lambert, or Lekeremaki.

If the isles luck into a pick where Nemec or Jiricek are available, hit me up and we’ll make a deal hahaha.

I know. What I meant was an established RD. I should’ve made that clear hahah. I’d be willing to move up for those guys though.

A couple of questions about the NYI deal.
1 - why does NYI need another C?
2 - if NYIs roster is very old (which it is) why would they move a 22yo who is playing a really big role?
3 - Scheifele is having a down year and there are questions about his mindset. I doubt the isles are interested in that especially considering hes really not needed. I think youd be much better off with BOS or NYR.

Made some good points. I just thought the islanders could afford to trade from a position of strength to bolster their offense. From what I’ve seen they’ve struggled to score.

Scheifele definitely has some questions around him, but i think a change of scenery will fix a lot of things.

Maybe something along the lines of FeFe/Heinola/Lucius for Dobson/Beau. Heinola and Scheifele bring some much needed firepower and Lucius is a good prospect. It sounded like there were some issues with Beauvillier and he may need a change of scenery. Gives us our RHD and some potential middle scoring. Isles get a PPG centreman, lefty defender to play with Pulock (that would be sick) and a good prospect.

But Dobson is arguably the best offensive weapon isles have , he's better offensively than Heinola and Scheifele combined. Beauvillier is the main driver of the best line the islanders have at the moment.

Scheifele gets a ton of empty net points - he wouldn't be a PPG player on the isles. He'd be the 3rd best center on the isles.

No, Dobson is good, but he's not PPG 1C and a top prospect good. Something more needs to be coming from the Islanders.

I would look for other targets, they are not moving dobson

Thing is under trotz offensive production takes a hit. And hes a C which will create othwr problems. It also means we lose most of our offense from the back end which will cut even more into the production that scheifele can give us. The only guys id be interested in moving dobson for are connor and ehlers.

I like your post a lot, especially the ability to finely express all the moves. I agree that Scheif could be moved in case we find a solid 2C with good defensive play to replace him, someone like D. Strome or even J. Toews with retained salary. I am afraid Perfetti isn't ready yet for the 2C role plus I believe Stas could be more useful as a def oriented winger these day. On the other hand, if he goes to 2C with speedy young guns, whatever. I also agree that even that one year of Scheif has a lot of value considering the cap.

What I don't understand at all is moving DeMelo. That contract is an absolute steal, his defensive play is in the NHL's TOP 10 (yeah, no kidding!), he is an analytical darling. Wouldn't even consider moving him.

On the other hand, Stanley has been nothing but brutal. Yes, completely brutal. That guy is big and has a strong shot which is pretty much all he does. I know I am going to be hated for this but man, the sooner we move him for any asset the better, at least now when he has at least some value.

Dillon needs to go. IMO him and Stanley just don't have their place on LD now with Jmo, Heinola and Samberg.

Great take on Schmidt. Altough I absolutely love the guy, he is too offensive minded to be played on the 3rd pair. If he stays, though, it wouldn't be the worst problem the Jets might be facing. Ideally I would like to see something like:

Morrissey - Pionk
Heinola - DeMelo
Samberg - Lyubushkin/Saucy

Also I would definitely bring an experienced bottom 6 guy, someone like ZAR / Motte / Janmark to replace Harkins. We need that grit and def play too.

I think Boston is a good spot to look at. I just don’t know what they’d be willing to give up. If the B’s could resign Bergeron to help scheifele with his defensive play it would be perfect.
