Description

Boy... we need a LW passer who is big and able to cycle the puck in the corner...great on PP.

I saw Voracek playing yesterday and he definitely fit the bill. I want him to play with Suzuki and Caufield. What's the price CBJ fans? I've sent Drouin retained and Petry as a tester.

Basically everyone is available except the obvious : the 2022 first round (MTL) pick, CC, Suzuki, Romanov and Ghule.

As for the ANA trade, I want to bring Comtois home. I feel like the Ducks could use a big RW PF... that RW needs some love. Anderson is also the type of guy who will and can defend Zegras and Terry. You can also get Hoffman and Armia for free if you wish.

I know Comtois is younger... but he has taken a step down this year... a change of scenery could be good. Also, we are both sending these PF far far away... so you don't have to play against them 8 times a year.

I'm not exactly too willing to give up Jake, but Gus Nyquist can play left wing, how does that sound to you?

I dont think they would move Voracek based on his impact on and off the ice. He has been a leader in this young team.

Anderson for Comtois is a poor idea for the Ducks in the first place, and adding a second-round draft pick makes it a dealbreaker.

Four of those players you want to move from Montreal have iffy to poor contracts. Their trade value isn't that good.

Over the last two seasons, when he "was a key part of the SCF run," Anderson played in 113 games and had 52 points. Comtois played in 102 games and had 45 points. Comtois just turned 23; Anderson turns 28 next month. And if you think that Anderson is going to be worth $5.5 million after he turns 30 and for the next several years after that, you're dreaming.

CBJ has a surplus of wingers but Voracek is their most valuable one outside of Laine. Don't think Jake is untouchable but I think they'll keep him around for next year.

There's another veteran LW that the Jackets have who could get moved to make space for the young guys, and that's Gus Nyquist. He'll be a UFA after next season so Columbus could retain if needed. He had some rust early this year (since he missed the entirety of 2020) but he's been awesome for the last few months. Cheaper contract than Jake, can kill penalties, and is still productive (and younger).

That said, the Jackets don't really have any need for wings so they wouldn't be interested in Drouin. Petry would be a solid fit here, though. Not sure who adds but that seems like a good framework for a deal.

We'll see, but right now Comtois is literally sleeping on a decent Ducks team that was in/near a wildcard spot for a pretty big portion of the season. Meanwhile, were seeing Anderson complimenting Suzuki/Caufield pretty nicely on the first line while also being versatile AND still producing while in the middle of changing up how he plays. So yeah Anderson is easily going to be worth that contract, especially to a team that has needed size like his for a long while. What does Comtois give to the Ducks that isnt just high scoring in a season against the same 7-8 teams?

Points isnt the only thing to consider when looking at player value
Points, advantage anderson
Contract, age, upside, advantage comtois

Also if you are just looking at points this year you need to factor in Comtois had wrist surgery at the start of the season.

Ducks dont trade Comtois 1-for-1 for Josh Anderson, an aging expensive player that doesnt fit into our compete window. And they surely do not add anything let alone something as valuable as a second

In fairness, Gallagher's production has already declined significantly. But, Habs fans will (rightly) quickly point you to the fact that he's coming off injury. The same folks will skip over Comtois wrist surgery though

Meh... paying 11m for Tavares is a iffy contract. 5.5M for a PWF is fair market value - that, by the end of the contract, will be fine in terms of cap % (big increases in 2024-2025).

Hoffman and Drouin (as a rental) can be moved.

Armia as well, don't expect to get much in return.

obviously the habs want Voracek for the same reasons CBJ would want to keep him. Habs could always try to sign Giroux in the offseason... but I particularly like Voracek.

Well those big US TV network deals never happened. And if we ever have a recession, the walk up attendence especially in the US drops. Hope you're right about the cap increase but no reason to think there will be one.
