Non-Wings fan here, but they're going to laugh at this.

If they want Rust, and are willing to give him that contract (which they absolutely should not), then they've got ooodles of cap space available this summer to just sign him. Sign and trades in the NHL are pretty much non-existant.

This would only make sense if the red wings want 8 years and for that they would probably much rather just trade a mid-late round pick to obtain his rights and sign him

Ok so say we move Rust to Wings for a 2nd rd pick. Who do you sign via free agency as 2nd RW?

Ok cool. I know it went up a $1M but I couldn't remember this years lol. Thanks.

Ok so what $3.5M RW do we sign if we don't trade Rust for Bertuzzi?

I'd rather sign Bert really than swap him for rust. He's 3 years younger and about the same production.

Plus 21 of Rust's 58 points are on the PP. He is playing with better players Malkin or Crosby are in on 38 of his points.
