I think a Monahan buyout is the most probable scenario.

Definitely an overpay on Kylington, he is not worth that

So Kylington has one 29 point season and all of a sudden he's worth $4,800,000 x 5 years. I don't think so. And why would Backlund waive for Buffalo? He's not waiving for a bottom feeder.

Calgary would be lucky to only have to give up a 2nd to move backlund there’s no chance they get a 2nd for him

They can move both. It will take some creativity and futures, but they can do it.

Toughness is still valued by "hockey people". Lucic is only due 1m in actual salary next season. ANA could make some sense.

Monahan is a tougher trade to make. Not sure what his trade list looks like, but I would try to sell him on Arizona. It's just for 1yr and he will play a prominent top 6 role. Could give him a chance at getting another multi year deal

This move wouldn't make any sense for Buffalo. Would think they decline rather easily.

Buy out Monahan and deal a pick to offload Lucic, probably gets it all done.

The way 13 and 19 are playing, I think you may have to trade both Mony and Lucic - and more - to afford them.
I think we can get at least a minimal return for Mony without having to buy him out - even a mid-round draft pick; somebody will take a flyer on him.
I hate to see Lucic go; I know his salary is large and production low, but there's an intangible he brings to the room that is useful.
I think Backlund could fetch an ok return to a competitive team that needs a 3C with elite-level defensive skill. No way we waives his NTC for Buffalo, though.

Buffalo would pass even if you paid them a 2nd to take Backlund, unless they were being paid to retain salary and facilitate a trade elsewhere.
