Leafs Next Year

Created by: KMarner10
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 5, 2022
Published: Apr. 26, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This only happens if Muzzin waives his NTC and Giordano takes a Spezza-like deal.

The goaltending is a very solid tandem who can split the games in order to not overwork anyone. The Husso contract might be wishful thinking, but it's either him or we sign a guy like Holtby or Wedgewood to a 1yr deal as a stopgap for Woll.

The forwards are all solid, and Knies can take over Spezza's role come the '23-24 season. The PK will still be top-tier, especially with us having like 8 forwards that can kill penalties.

If Sandin comes back, he should get another chance with Lybushkin because they were very good before he went down. Brodie and Rielly reunite as the top pair, with Gio and Liljegrin being the 'shutdown' pair.

With the extra cap space left over and picks acquired, they will be able to trade for a top 6 fwd at the deadline and a depth defenseman to be the 7/8th guy in.

I am really uneasy that were gonna give Husso 4x4 and Campbell 4x3. I think it is one or the other for me.

Red hot take with 8 million in goalies! But I like it.
Is Toronto interested in Niemalainen? I think the only way they trade him is to give more opportunity to play in the NHL, and honestly I think he'd get stuck in the AHL in Toronto. I could see them moving him to Arizona, or someone who kinda needs roster players.

That's what I'm worried of. In the amount of games that Husso has played this year, I feel like this role would be perfect for both. Also, he plays calm enough to potentially work with this D-core. I'm still not comfortable making Campbell the #1 guy, especially because if he gets hurt, we will be in deep trouble. If one goalie is on a serious heater, then you can play them a bit more, but I think that this is best case-scenario.

He's a big guy who is cheap and defensively minded. I think he gets into 20-30 games with this team, but if he isn't doing well, we make a trade and he becomes the 8th guy. As we have seen lately, injuries happen, so we need to be ready for that.

Niemelainen is basically just Kristian Rubins, not really a reason to get him if we’ve already got a comparable. Muzz likely isn’t going anywheres, and it makes more sense to save cap by having McKay as the backup if he earns himself the ELC out of camp (or Kallgren/Woll). The team itself here looks good up front. My changes would be just don’t trade Muzz, let Boosh go to FA, and sign a backup level goalie in FA instead of Husso who is experienced to battle it out with McKay, Kallgren, and Woll for the backup role (Koskinen maybe?)

Ville Husso is 27 years old with 56 career NHL games under his belt. he'll probably get a similar deal as Alex Nedeljkovic $3,000,000 x 2 years. Paying him more is plain lunacy.

you are right. I also agree I dont think Campbell has done enough to this point. But I have to hope he has a great post season and proves it.

I just compared this with what I have been seeing with the Blues' fans. 4 years is obviously risky, but I think this is what we would have to pay.

Edmonton has zero pressure to trade him though - he's not eligible for waivers for 2 more years.

Yes, Muzzin, Kerfoot and Hirvonen are three guys in whom Los Angeles has absolutely no interest, never mind Muzzin's NTC.

You are going to send the Kings over $9million in cap space and you want the Kings to pay you for it?

    Uhh... No from LA.
