Description
Feeling that Holtz wont make the team next season either, not out of camp anyway. Doesn't look one bit ready for the NHL and with the emergence of Zetterlund competition just got a lot harder.

This team can obviously score at a decent rate, and with the core guys one year older I expect that to improve further. I really don't trust Smith anymore though so feel like shoring up on defense is a priority.

I don't want the Sabres to do that. I think the Sabres are overpaying, which I would only do for a 1c. The Sabres would most likely be targeting a right d at 5. With power and dahlin already on the roster, I don't think that I wanna invest that pick on a high end right d. Of course if you win the lottery and wanna circle back, I at least would be willing to pay for the 1C.

Trade looks fair to me, but if it's a question about fit there isn't very much to be done.
Anaheim could also be used for trading back as well.

Doesn't mean you move out a legitimate rhs top 4 defenseman, who also happens to play a gritty physical game, and is a heart and soul type of guy for less then he's worth.

Which is a late round 1st, minimum. And no, a high 2nd round pick is NOT just as good. Players like Dumba are a premium in the NHL, and he is going to cost. If Risto can get a 1st, Dumba is absolutely worth a 1st plus more.

This is an insanely bad trade for Minnesota. There is no way we ever take that low of a return for him. He is going to cost more than that. Period.

Somebody else just posted a chart (see devils trading back post). It looks like the Sabres would be overpaying with pick 9 and 32 for pick 5. Obviously miles wood was added to balance, I like the player, but nowhere near swapping pick 32 for pick 16. But that's just one chart, which is why these picks don't get moved very often.

Meh. Only reason Risto got a first was cus it was Chuck Fletcher trading for him.
If Guerin actually went through Asset Management 101 he'd have signed Fiala to a longer contract last summer before this breakout of his, not signed Goligoski to 5m aav and / or held off on buying out Suter.

Dumba is great.
He's also an UFA.
And on a cap hit Guerin cannot afford and he's got an mNTC.
Pick 37 is plenty for Dumba, given the context.

Wild easily decline. Dumba is probably the guy that gets moved but he will go for more.

Dumba is good player, but would only make sense to go to rebuilding club if he were resigning (or we got him very cheap ala Ryan Murray deal).

If he came with extension, we’d have to add a big piece…probably big enough to pass in deal.

Go for Fiala with a Buchnevich-sized package instead.
