Description
Wright for Chychrun.

They swap Vejmelka for a guy with higher potential in the long term, but will help them in the Bedard tank for the short term.

Devils get an answer in net and defensive help.

A ton of moves here but this is a playoff team in my eyes.

Why? Devils don't need another 18 year old two-way C with limited offensive upside.

They get a young first pair LD on a cheap deal and a reliable backup. This deal alone pushes them a lot closer to playoffs.

Well the beauty of picking 1st is you can pick anyone you want. Slafkovsky if size tickles their pickle, Cooley if they want high end skill. Trading 1OA for an LHD with one good-not-great season would get the GM fired. Now, package Keller with it, and you're working, but just an LHD is poor asset management

Pretty sure they were asking for an Eichel-type package.

Great year last year, on pace for 40 points this year despite AZ being junk. Good defensive awareness and can mix it up physically, only 24 years old still has a ton of upside.

No shot they give us Keller on top of him.

30-40 point guy that's over 50% in the face-off dot past 2 years. Worth about 3-4M imo. Devils typically have to overpay free agents.

If we are trading 1st overall, we can pretty much get any available player with that pick. None will cost more.

More good players >> less good players. Two guys being good at the same thing is roster flexibility, not a liability.

Also these are elite hockey players. One of them can slide to wing, I'm sure.

E: why would you think Shane Wright's offensive upside is limited? Lethal shot, elite IQ.

Chychrun is not worth Shane Wright, let alone ++. One dimensional Offensive dmen are highly over rated

DY production is not incredibly impressive. His skating will hold him back at the next level. He'll top out as a 70 point guy imo.

Devils don't need another Nico Hischier.

Can't say that I've caught many Seattle or Minnesota games in the past few years. Production looked okay and decent in the face-off dot.

Do you know how many forwards in the league had 70 points this year?! 45! Why would you not want ANOTHER top 50 producer who has a great defensive game?! Especially one who only costs 900k!

The Devils would be amazingly fortunate to have more Nicos. He's incredible.

You missed the part where I said he'll top out at 70. Not do it every year.

Devils are far more desperate for an 80+ point winger, top pair LD, starting G, etc. than they are another 60 point two-way C.

Nico's a nice piece but he's not catapulting your rebuild forward.

This is some hardcore underselling on Nico and its really disappointing. Nico has incredible underlying numbers and good production despite the worst shooting season of his career.

And idk why you think he'd top out at 70. Scouch thinks he'll be a perennial 70-80 point guy, especially with the right line mates (hello Jack Hughes and Alex Holtz)

His skating grades out as above NHL average. His shot and IQ both high end. He would be an incredibly valuable asset.

Re: his DY production, he's currently at 60% chance of being a star and 70% of being an NHLer, which is right in line with roughly half of all the recent 1st overall picks, and that is despite missing a full development year.

This is a HARD underrating of both Wright and Nico.

Im sure the Devils would LOVE another Hischier, what the hell are you talking about??? Lol

EDIT: Ah wait, just saw the name. You're one of the idiots on Devils twitter....that take makes complete sense now.

Hey if you're in love with Nico that's cool man. I won't go around calling people idiots for having a different opinion.

Dude's in his 5th year and just got past the 52 point mark. He is incredibly overrated by majority of Devils fans, is what it is.

Picking 1st overall is never a guarantee, that still reads as a 40% chance of him not being a star.

It's a personal opinion. He very well could be a perennial 70-80 point guy, not saying it's impossible. I don't see it personally, could absolutely be wrong.

I guarantee you I've seen him play live more times than you (and Scouch), I live in Kingston. He's never blown me away.

He does a lot of little things well and he's smart, that will make him a solid NHLer but I don't know if he has the dynamism to be a star. We'll see.

How am I underrating Nico? He just cracked 53 points in his 5th year. After his rookie year his production has been underwhelming and the Devils have gone nowhere.
