Montreal has no intentions to be good next season, they aren't in any rush to move his contract. Its not even clear if Price will be physically able to play again, he might end up LTIRetired. Even no retention doesn't make sense for Montreal unless they think they can get their #1 choice with the 2nd overall pick. 50% retention is just idiotic.

We're not wasting the 1st overall pick to dump him, I rather just keep him, we're rebuilding anyway. What a waste of 1st overall
1 thing would be no retention (I still wouldn't do it), but you then proceed to retain him for 50%!
