2nd overall is way too much for a guy that's a rental. Even with an extension attached it's too much.

Would Boston want to wait a year for Cooley or Mercer now in a deal instead.

Remind me how much Mark Stone got when he was traded as a rental that needed an extension?

Pasta would be great (for a winger and for dinner).

Many of the wingers talked about as options for NJD (Gaudreau, Fiala, Pastrnak, Garland, etc) just dont fit what Fitzgerald has said he is looking for (“heavier skill”).

So as much I like them, and will continue talking about them, they probably aren’t guys NJ is targeting

No, but if I'm Boston I'm also extending Pastrnak unless he says 100% he won't re-sign.

Don't care for zacha, he's nothing we don't already have. Smith is another LHD, which Boston has too many of already. The 1st are the most valuable pieces to Boston.

That's how the market is for players in this situation. Any team trading for him has to sign him to a huge extension + Pasta has to want to sign with that team. That limits the amount of trade partners. That's why the Stone return wasn't great.

Stone said he would only extend in Vegas.

So, if we can get Pasta to say he will only extend in Jersey, it’s a fitting comp.

That's the thing. Any team trading for him would have to be a team Pasta wants to sign with. That kills a lot of the value in a trade.

Lol the funny part is Boston isn't shopping him so it irrelevant. In Stone's case OTT was selling off and full blown rebuilding. As soon as they are allowed per CBA both sides have expressed interest in getting something done. It's not like Pasta is looking to get out of Boston.

He could say he wants to explore UFA market. Then everyone would be bidding for a rental.

But he probably extends in Boston anyway.

Yea it's called Armchair GM where people make fantasy trades. It doesn't have to be 100% realistic.

Yea but rentals don't get top 5 picks. He'd probably just get the usual package for a top tier rental. He's got a NTC too though, so he'd still get to have some say.

seth jones was a pending UFA the following year and would only sign in chicago or in dallas and columbus still got an absolutely insane package for him

Seth Jones is a RD

Pastrnak isn't a RD

The market for RD is absurd. Risto got the 13th pick. It's not really comparable.

Both Stone & Pasta are wingers

Lol people are seriously discussing whether it is worth to give up a 7 oa for Pastrnak. There are many players in this draft that could become superstars. But there is always a risk of drsfting a bust. Pastrnak is almost risk free
