Needs to be more coming back to SJ if we're retaining that much (which I'm not even sure if SJ would do in the first place).
The other option is to send Burns through Arizona and pay them to retain on Burns.
Yep sure, I just threw random numbers + picks here to make it work but could be more or less based on return. Yeah maybe a 3rd team like Arizona could work also. Didn't think of that.

Habs can probably get a 3rd at the deadline for Byron at 50% retained. No reason to accept this
I think that's a pipe dream until Byron can play a full season and score 15+. Considering there is a chance the injuries he got this year might keep him out of another start to the year this year, and him playing 4th line minutes in MTL this year when he gets back if he did stay, means a 3rd is a pipe dream even with retention. Happy to be wrong but 99.9% think I'm right.

As a DAL fan I refuse to acknowledge this post's existence until this actually happens.
Until then I'll just post my favorite picture here.
Lets be honest here, Pavelski connection........ Dallas is where Burns lives in the summers (right?)...... PP QTR back RHD Klingberg leaving in free agency is a possibility........ SJ looking at moving a RHD.......
No idea the cost but I guarantee you the thought has entered Nill's head already.

I think the more likely trade would be Dallas sending a big ticket back the other way, maybe Seguin or benn, and retention being added to even out the contracts. Maybe picks to even out value one way or the other
That would involve two guys who signed NMC deals to waive for a city they probably don't want to go to as the team is retooling and not playoff worthy and the taxes are higher. Burns hypothetically could have Dallas on his NTC, especially if he wants to try and win a cup.

No GM is retaining 50% on 8mil for 3 years. Burns is still an excellent player and that kind of retention is a pipe dream and DAL would be sending Stankoven in that package to achieve it.
Yeah maybe not 50%. I just threw this deal together to be compliant. But Dallas has 3 legit solid C prospects. They can't play all of them so maybe Stankoven could be the main piece going back. depending on how much SJ retains.

I would see more a swap of EK and Seguin. Both are relatively the same age. Contracts are pretty similar in terms of Cap space but I did not check in terms of actual disbursements. Contracts ends at the same time.
Burns is already 37 and his contract will end at 40. We already have a D with a contract ending at 40. One is enough
Once again, all those guys have full NMC's who signed their legacy contracts with their teams. Good luck moving them now. Burns at least has a limited NTC and if any team is one of his ok teams to go to, its Dallas. (Im totally guessing that obviously but there is evidence to suggest if he waives for one team, that could be it). As for Burns age, he's old for sure but his scoring touch doesn't appear to be slowing down. He can still run a PP at the very least. Listen I wouldn't do this deal either. Just saying the
"if shoe fits, wear it"..... even if it just happens to be a clown shoe.

I don’t see the sharks retaining $12 mil for that return
Yeah could be more or less, didn't overly think this deal out. Just threw it together.
