Trade with Senators for 7OA and Stars 18OA

Created by: KentMcNally

Description
The goal is for Montreal to get more quality players for the rebuild and also be as close to drafting Bedard as possible next year.
I am not sure what else you would have to possibly add to the Senators deal. If they want Dvorak or Riley Kidney I would do it (and try to replace Dvorak as a 3C through free agency).
Getting Josh Anderson for $3,250,000.00 per year is pretty good in my mind.
Ottawa is unloading salary (even though they do not HAVE TO, given their cap space) on Montreal, so that helps the Sens.
Adding Murray and White likely just helps the Habs fall down the standings in 2023.
You could take Hakanpaa out of the Dallas deal if the Stars do not like it and sign a cheap defenceman for the Right Defence position instead.

You're doing quantity over quality with that Sens trade. They decline as Anderson at 3.250m for 5 years is still a detrement cause that contract will look horrible and non of the other pieces interest the Sens.

They are much better of drafting a good forward like Kemell or Lekkerimaki with the pick and then have that develop into the top six forward.

Also can Habs fans stop trading scraps for top ten picks please.

Ottawa trade is weird and interesting. I think if you want murray you could get him for cheaper. Weird stuff going each way. Split up the trades if youre giving a 1st and mysak and norlinder for there 1st or whatever youre doing

The Ottawa trade is just flawed considering that there is to many moving pieces and not enough value going back the Sens way for the 7th OA pick.

Sens probably don't do any move for Murray without knowing what his health situation is. If they can just stash him on LTIR there's no need for them to move him cap-wise. Mysak and Norlinder are interesting prospects but the thing is Ottawa is already filled with interesting prospects - I can't see them moving back in the draft just to get more of them (through both these prospects and the extra picks).

I'd also argue they'd much prefer dealing with 3x$4.75M for Colin White than 5x$3.25M for Josh Anderson, even if it's lesser production - I just can't see this being a big enough upgrade to get them to move 7OA.

I picked Ottawa because they said that they may move the pick for immediate help, which would be Anderson. Ottawa could ask for more, which is why I suggested Dvorak or Kidney (or maybe Farrell or Xhekaj) possibly being added.

Ottawa doesn't need nor want Anderson, they'd want someone with more skill and they could get better players and pieces for so much less. The prospects do nothing and Andersons contract will still be a determent to the Sens in the future. He is also incredibly inconsistent and not the player I would acquire.

I dont believe the value is off like you say. Murray has negative value due to contract. If I was MTL I would decline Murray and White for Anderson retained straight up. But lets say this is accepted by montreal making the trade a 1st 2nd Norlinder Mysak (who are both quality prospects) and Allen for the 7OA. Ottawa probably wins this trade.

Ottawa isn’t trading 7th unless we are adding a legit high end top 6 player who has produced at 65+ pts per game

Lots of people said Montreal would not get a first round pick for Ben Chiarot and they did.

Petry has more value than Chiarot (although I get that Chiarot was an expiring contract and Petry is not, which is why I added retained salary) and the Dallas pick is not even in the top 15. Plus Dallas gets Montreal's 2nd round pick at 33. I do not think the value if that far off to move up 15 spots.

Do they though, they don't need a goalie (Forsberg and Gustavsson) is a fine tandem. Anderson is not needed and is a determent. (You're example of a trade is horrible (White + Murray = Anderson) Because of his contract. While Norlinder and Mysak are okay prospects the one that Ottawa will draft with the pick (if they keep it) will be far better and fit and work better than Anderson. The late first adds nothing because it is likely a similar prospect to Norlinder and Mysak. The second does nothing. Murray is not really a cap dump cause he will likely fit on LTIR for most of the season and White's buyout is peanuts so he doesn't have negative value.

Montreal wins the trade.

(They get ride of a determental contract in the long term and gain a top prospect while getting ride of some decent prospects.

Quality > Quantity.

The trade doesn't fix anything for Dallas. They need to add RD (preferably not Petry), not simply replace the only one remaining on their roster (assuming Klingberg doens't return).

Not saying Hakanpaa is the superior player, but given the contracts of both of them, I'd rather see Dallas keep Hakanpaa & not move down 15 spots in the draft, tbh.

That's too much retained money on Petry. Ppl here are drunk to think he's not getting a 1st especially with retained money!

lol Hakanpaa over Petry is all I heard and tuned out. Petry at 3 million. RHD that scores 40 points every year, skates and hits but you prefer a pylon. LMAO

First, I even said verbatim, "Not saying Hakanpaa is the superior player." Second, I honestly didn't see the salary retention. That would certainly change things. At full salary, I would rather deal with the $1.5M Hakanpaa contract than another 2 years of $6.25M for an aging, declining defenseman.

At his cap and his age, Petry is simply not a gamble I'm trying to take if I'm Dallas. Especially not when there are more affordable options that will be available for Dallas this offseason.
