Lowkey offseason

Created by: Snowm3n
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 1, 2022
Published: Jun. 1, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't see the leafs making significant changes. The compensation is fair for the Holl deal. The kerfoot deal I just put together can be changed ( I think it's pretty fair value). The mrazek dump makes sense considering the Sabers have no real goalie. Arizona could also work, but I wanted to switch it up.

zero percent chance Nichushkin signs for only $3.25M after a 60 point season.

Buffalo isn't gonna help the Leafs by taking that bad contract without any compensation

Arizona is another option I think they could deal Mrazek with.

Fair enough but I looked at there goalie situation. And thought they could take a shot. I guess leafs would add a pick or a B level prospect to make it go through.

I realized that after seeing his point total. But it had a lot to do with who he was playing with. MY thinking is that u sign a short-term deal if ur valarei. Play with similar quality linemates and then after 2-3 years of 60-point production GO get PAID!!!! Because he can move up to play with manner and Matthews and play up and down the lineup. Also, love the uncle Leo DP

It's either Toronto's first round pick or no deal.

Sabres are looking to "take a shot" at a goalie. Theyre going to be looking for a starter, they arent starting a rebuild. Toronto has to pay significant compensation

Mrazeks risk to reward balance is why I think he's still a 1a/b in this league. Injuries aside it would be 1 year after next season left and if it doesn't work out its a buyout for a year or 2. Signifcant compensation wouldn't be a 1st. Maybe maximum a second or a B+ prospect, but at that point you swallow the bullet and do a buyout

That's the price, sabres aren't doing the leafs any favors, especially if the contract in question involves a bad goalie that they shelled this year.

I agree sabers wouldn't do any favours but anything involving a 1st or maybe even a second is out of the equation. Sabers wont be sniffing near the playoffs for a bit. Taking a chance on a guy who would be gone in 2 years, who could turn into a decent return at the trade deadline. It is a risk I think Sabers could take but who knows lol its just speculation

He was waived to the A. Every GM could have had him for free. So I dont believe NHL GMs see him as a 1a/1b. his game in the A was terrible too

It's sabres. They aren't that far away from the playoffs and will probably win a playoff series before the leafs do. There's no rewards to the risk that mrazek brings. Almost no value for the sabres who can get a better stop gap starter in free agency. Mrazek has negative value overall with his contract so no he's not going to get a valuable return from any team, especially the sabres.

The Sabres finished 4.5 games behind NY for 9th place in the conference. If they had Anderson all year they would have made up the 5 game difference. Theres not going to be as big of a gap between 9 and 8 next year. They are improving all over their roster and that only emphasizes the need for an actual starting goalie. They will be going big for a goalie, with all of that cap space that every other team feels entitled to, for some reason

I can appreciate the Leafs not wanting to add a first to move mrazek. It's possible that arizona will take him, that seems to be their business plan, of course they will be playing in a college barn next year, so do what you like with that. As somebody else pointed out, he was waived, and went unclaimed. Nobody wants to take on that contract and hope that he is serviceable.

If Mrazek's salary was less than his cap hit it would be a maybe. The team will not want to pay the real dollars for a guy who may not be as good as just resigning Tokarski for $1M-ish.
