Why trade a great play-driving top-6 winger and a first round pick for a 4th liner and a not very good goalie?

That NJ trade sucks for Edmonton.

Only trade that I'd even look at from oilers perspective is Philly trade.
Plenty of teams I'm sure would be interested in Barrie if made available but Detroit would be a surprise....
Kass trade I can't get behind paying a prospect and downgrading the role just to save 1.7? If paying a prospect I'd rather no return and get use of full 3.2 million.
Jersey trade I wouldn't be paying such a steep price given health concerns on blackwood.

Barrie is a glue guy and had a pretty good season in a lesser role, which does fit on Detroit’s right side. His contract is only 2 more years and he could be worth a 2nd rd pick at deadline.

Barrie is notoriously a glue guy. Young Detroit team could use a guy like him.

Hathaway is an upgrade on Kassian, not even close. Hathaway is a buzzsaw in a contract year.

To me, McDavid does not like working with Pulju. Blackwood is still a good bet in my eye and McLeod is a nice btm 6 piece who’d be inclined to play on his brothers team in Edmonton, Alberta on a good deal.

Go get it elsewhere then. He's not a fit in Detroit at all. Both Seider and Hronek are better than him in a top 4 role and Lindstrom is a better fit in a bottom pair, shut down role. He makes zero sense in Detroit.

Pay less then, but I think Blackwood is a good buy. And McLeod is a useful btm 6 player - high end face off guy, big and can fly.

Detroit already has a younger, cheaper, defensively awful, offensive-minded RD on their 2nd pairing. No need for Barrie.

Hathaway is two times the player at half the cost. Washington says no.
