You better hope Hawks fans don't see the Cat trade. 😧

Why are we trading Holl for someone we can sign as ufa? Preds actually get 809k back in cap space by buying him out. I think myers to Toronto was part of future consideration.

The OP is using Myers' buyout bonus to get TOR under cap here.

Didn't even notice the buyout. Personally I would wait for preds to buy him out and then sign him. There is certainly some upside there. Holl is certainly worth more than 600k in cap space.

Yeah, if TOR is the team that buys him out, they can't be the ones who sign him as a UFA. I think he could still be useful to a few teams and the Leafs are one of them, but not at his cap hit. Hard to say what the market is for Holl right now, because there probably isn't one until UFA season dries up. If buying out Myers means a team gets to just slide under the cap to start the season, I figure that's probably worth at least a 4th to them.

I feel like if you're dumping Holl's contract and getting back the Magic Myers buyout, you need to give Nashville a little treat. Nothing big, but like a 5th rounder to even it out.

Kerfoot most likely gets a 3rd in the summer, I can't see a team paying up that much for him. Could be wrong though.

I feel like Caps fans want a goalie back if they're moving Vanecek; if they already have someone to tandem with Samsonov though I could see this move happening.

I feel like Carolina passes here - they've got a lot of mouths to feed this summer (Tony D/Martin Necas/Ethan Bear RFA raises + replacing Trocheck/Niederreiter/Stepan) so I don't know if they are super into the idea of moving a guy on an ELC like Suzuki plus a team leader on a cheap contract like Martinook.

Absolute no from Chicago. Duszak & Hollowell will be 25 & 24, respectively, when next season starts and haven't cracked the NHL yet, so it's hard to consider them much more than depth. We'll be generous and say getting the Hawks to retain $3.2M for a year costs the 2nd rounder you've included here; that makes the rest of the deal basically Nick Robertson & what profiles as a late 1st for Alex DeBrincat. You know that's not enough, right? Like, you don't need to be brigaded by Hawks fans to realize it's a bad deal?

    Mrazek, whatever

I don't think LA gives up Gabe Vilardi for that package. Kase filled up his punch card and gets his next MRI free, so not sure how much interest LA would have in that; Abramov is basically profiling as a guy who might turn into Gabe Vilardi in a year or two so this just feels like a lateral move for LA, so why bother?

As a Preds fan, I'm good with Myers for Holl straight up. Holl could fill a hole on the third pair for a year, and probably get NSH that mid pick at the deadline.

Nope, 600k retention for one season is worth a 7th.

No doubt, now if we made a reasonable hockey trade out of this and swapped martinook and the two 2nds for Necas what would you say?

If Suzuki comes out and you re-insert one of the 2nds, maybe. Necas AND Suzuki? No.

Chicago will get far better value elsewhere for DeBrincat especially if we are retaining 50%. Toronto simply doesn’t have the assets to make an offer.

Los Angeles declines. We're still planning on seeing Vilardi earn a permanent place on the roster this season.
