Bergeron Retires Bruins Going For It

Created by: AHockey1993
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 11, 2022
Published: Jun. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Boston Bruins have some flexibility to make some moves that revamp the offense. Their D Corps is solid and their goaltenders for the future are already set. Traded a couple contracts to free up cap space. Room to move guys like Craig Smith mid-season for trade deadline cap space. The top-9 I built is really solid.

You wont even have Marchand, McAvoy and Grzelcyk in the lineup until December or January.
And fat chance of Ryan Strome signing for only $4,500,000 try more like $5,500,000 x 5-6 years if not even more money.

I'm building this team based on advanced analytics. Bruins have a deep analytics department, and the players I signed/acquired are analytics darlings who either already broke out offensively (Marchment) or are due to break out and already have terrific metrics (Puljujarvi). Strome is a solid add for the 2nd C position. Rodrigues replaces the scoring of Debrusk but is more consistent for the top-6. Forbort is bad defensively and not worth the money he's making at all. He's also behind on the LD depth chart IMO.

CBJ aren't taking cap dumps let alone paying for them.

Yaaaa no. Bruins aren’t heavy on the analytics. They would likely scratch Tyson Barrie, because Tyson Barrie sucks at hockey.

Did you say forbort is bad defensively? Dude, if all you want to do is look at numbers, be an accountant, or watch baseball. Hockey is not about that.

They should all be back by December. November at the earliest. Just need to find value contracts/prospects who can fill the void for a month or two. Strome is realistically closer to 5.5 million but the Bruins find ways to sign guys to team-friendly deals. Maybe not super realistic but not that far off value-wise.

Wagner is a 4th liner. A 6th round pick seems like fair value, no? Maybe switch it to Boston giving a pick instead to take the player.

I don't JUST look at numbers. Hockey is trending in the direction of advanced analytics and has been for years now. Boston has a fully fledged analytics department that has just as much say in potential player acquisitions as their scouts do. I've personally met and talked with their department. Forbort is not good defensively. He is constantly caved in his own zone. He is a 7th Dman at best on a good team IMO.

Edmonton declines. It's Boston that needs to add.

They don't have space for more forwards. They're sitting on 16 NHL ready forwards with 5 more guys that are waiting in the AHL as injury call ups. Wagner would just be buried in the minors and Jarmo hasn't taken on a cap dump period in 9 years as GM. its just not a match.

That's fair. I wasn't 100% aware of the forward depth in Columbus. Good to know!

It weirdly suddenly became their strong point last year and this year. They've done a complete swap from the Torts era and are now a team that can score plenty of goals but were a total black hole defensively last year.

Certainly N MTC Foligno can block any trade to to a team with cap. No, Holland takes on more cap for an equal player

I figured he might want to go to Seattle. Can be a locker room leader for their expansion building with younger players. He'd more realistically want to go to a contender though and win a Cup before his career is over. I agree.

Stick to your second thought. That's why players have NTCs. By the way Seattle isn't filled with younger players, they are filled with NHLers from the expansion draft. Besides so many Wesern Conference teams have poor travel schedules comparing to the East.

You might want to change the profile pick, it is highly discouraged to post personal information on cap friendly.

It’s just a heads up, not trying to pick a fight, that picking a fight with people who are too arrogant to understand advanced stats might not be the wisest thing to do.

You’d also be surprised at how many users there are who just use advanced stats to base a players value from.

Ah okay I understand! Sorry about that! Appreciate the heads up on the Capfriendly personal profile etiquette, and I will also be more conscious about bringing advanced metrics into the discussion in the future!

If Bergy retires BOS retools this year. Move the guys on expiring deals at the deadline, play the kids and then consider being competitive for next season since everyone should be healthy again. I honestly think it would only take 1 year of retooling for BOS to be competitive again. The core players are just too good for this team to be bad for several years.
