Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Assuming here that Keith and Smith both retire so Edmonton will have an extra $13.4M in cap space ($5.8M from Keith, $2.2M from Smith and $3.4M from recapture on Keith)

I know Edmonton fans will hate this but its exactly the kind of trade Holland likes to make, moving picks/young players for hard-hitting, established and winning veterans. It's not far off the Keith trade from last year for example. He has also made it pretty clear that he is interested in moving on from Puljujarvi and wouldn't commit to him being back at the end of the year presser.

Muzzin places Keith, Simmonds adds some grit and Kallgren can be a third-string behind Skinner and Edmonton's next starter. He's on a two way so this makes sense to have an NHL-proven goalie that can go up and down as needed so Skinner can develop and in case of injuries.
2.
TOR
  1. 2022 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
A player who can move in and out of the top 6 for Pit.

Leafs avoid any potential shocks in arbitration and also don't need him once they have Marner/Nylander/Puljujarvi on the right side.
PIT
  1. Kase, Ondrej [RFA Rights]
3.
TOR
  1. 2023 7th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Rumours are that Chicago actually valued Mrazek as an experienced NHLer who can play decent but not ruin their chances at a high pick. I've added some high performing AHLers who could breakout and that many have thought would become good players but haven't gotten extended looks on the Leafs.

I'd be willing to add a pick if Chicago wanted it but rumours are they don't so this seemed like a compromise between rumours they value him and my view that he has negative value.
4.
TOR
  1. 2022 4th round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Assuming they will buy out Myers, then Holl fits perfectly as their 3RD and the Preds walk away with $1M more in cap space.
5.
TOR
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
If the devils are serious about being better next year this nets them a 50 point player who is great defensively and kills penalties.

Devils can be serious about it, but not spend a 2nd on Kerfoot. There are better options to spend those assets on. Offense isn't the bigger problem. It's really shutdown D and goaltending.

Except the fact Holland spent a year working with brining jp back to North America and since taking over in Edmonton he seems very focused on continuing to grow from within with these young guys. While yes he wouldn't comment on jp future with the team he did also say the next step needs to come from the players 24 and under. If contract with jp does go south and trade does happen I highly suspect someone like debrusk will be targeted another young forward with some proven ability wanting a change of scenery

Yeah I'm not sure the values for these trades are there. Blackhawks fans are going to revolt.

Can't wait for the one Devils fan to start screaming about how Kerfoot betrayed them and he would never be worthy of playing there again...

I was joking tbh. I didn’t want my comment to seem too negative lol.

It's more he doesnt (or @ least didnt) want to be here. Maybe that has changed, if so sure, but who wants a guy who said no? No team should trade for a guy who was there for free and said no, that's just not smart business

I get it. He also said at the time it was due to the Devils centre depth (they had just drafted Hischier after all), so I don't think it was necessarily personal with the organization, he just didn't see a path to playing time at his position. Turns out he was probably right, especially after they added Hughes the next year. Seems to have worked out pretty well for everybody. I think if a player makes your team better you should be willing to add him instead of being concerned about the history, but it's not my call. It also happened what, 6 years ago?
