NYR match
Definitely causes them to alter their plans regarding others...and both Reaves and Nemeth would have to be moved. But all that would be worth it to preserve Kakko rather than jettison for a sole 2nd. And with that term NYR might actually thank OTT for the negotiating.

If CHI takes that, then I'm 100% in.

If I'm the Hawks, I would pass because A) I'm not high on Pinto and B) we get a higher prospect/impact player offered from other teams that can be potentially as good as Cat

Figured you would.

I'm not a Rangers fan, but am honestly wondering how Drury fits in the RFAs and UFAs this year, and then Laff and Miller next year. Some serious cap management about to happen.

You're including Georgiev, Strome, Copp, and Vartrano in the serious cap management. At most, one F is brought back.

He's good yes, but I'm not as high on him as some Ottawa fans are; I should have qualified the statement. Nonetheless, let's say the Devils offer the #2OA and Holtz, would you pass that up for this offer?

Still a lot of slots to fill with only approx. $13 mil in cap space. If I'm New York, I'd match the offer sheet, but the team has some tough decisions. Strome has been an excellent 2C. Copp was a great pick up at the deadline.

Def not. But do I think the Devils would offer that? I don’t think

They’d probably offer either of the following packages:

Mukhamadullin/Smith
Gritsyuk
Zacha
2nd overall

Mukhamadullin/Smith
Holtz
Zacha
2023 1st (top 5 protected )

Truthfully, I don't understand why CHI would even entertain a DeBrincat trade. He's at the perfect age to rebould a team around. But 2OA and Holtz - if they're trading him, that's a nice package for sure.

I respectfully disagree. I actually think he can be our 2nd line RW. He's got Hyman-like qualities and has been one of our best, most consistent forwards. Every contending team needs a Connor Brown.

Your team is likely still over the cap not sure if it goes up for the 23-24 season.

Brown at 5 per 5 is a bit steep, I realize that is probably what it would take to keep him thou.
Norris and Stuztle contracts would be ideal, I doubt both those get done at those numbers but here is hoping.
IF by the 23-24 season one of JDB or Thompson are not playing 2nd pairing then that would be a huge miss on the development coaches and a huge loss. But Miller would be a good stop gap.
NY matches that offer sheet in two seconds and says thank you for making our life easy.

I am on the fence with the Debrinkcat trade, I Don't think moving Pinto is a great idea, yes we have Stuzle and Norris at Center, but he could have some great value as a 3C and would be able to move up the lineup if needed. He hasn't grown his Faceoff numbers but if they get anywhere near the level he was doing in college that alone will make him so valuable as a PK asset.
Same with Formenton, the speed and PK asset a huge value with the cap hit he is going to come in at. Again another guy that has shown that if needed he can move up the lineup and play the top 6 minutes.

I am really hoping that this year we get a good number of games with a 3rd line of Formenton - Pinto - Joseph, the speed and lineup matches they would draw would make them a lethal secondary scoring threat. Not to mention any combo of those players or throw brown in is also top 10 PK unit in the league.

If you can do Branstromm, 7th OA, a 2nd, and Grieg or JDB I would be more inclined to make that trade. Then slide brown with Debrinkcat and Stuztle, mentioned third line above, then you have an every better line up.

I doubt Holtz is made available, that guy has a rocket of a shot and is going to score a lot of goals in this league.

Yes and no. If this is a teardown rebuild then maybe not as that would be 4 to 5 years out before the Hawks are competitive again. If it's a softer rebuild, 2 to 3 years then I agree Cat should stay and become your centerpiece of that kind of rebuild.

I think Zacha is a sneaky real good pick-up for the sens to play with Stuzle, how would you feel about that and what could OTT offer to get his RFA rights?

That's a coin flip in my mind. I think Holtz can deff be a regualr 40 goal scorer, but Cat already is, I guess the answer really comes to what does a Cat extension look like.

I just wouldn’t make any acquisition Unless he’s a major upgrade on Brown or Formenton and Zacha isn’t .

I think the risk is there with Holtz obviously. He's got a wicked shot, but I wouldn't say any better then Cat so it's wash there. The question is will he be able to find the space and time in the NHL to use it, and will he be a contributor on defense like Cat is? It's risk versus bird in the hand debate.

Cat's qualifying offer is $9M.
