Is Murray at $3.125 mil not just Mrazek a pair of Cup rings? Both are massive injury risks who haven’t been starting-caliber in a couple years.

I could see a world where this works tbh, but realistically I just don’t think it’s enough of an upgrade for the Leafs to come out satisfied. And the Sens don’t seem to gain much themselves, besides maybe a year of Kerfoot

It's definitely more reclamation project kind of situation. The only advantage here is that Murray is younger, and has a history of winning behind him. He didn't play behind great teams when he wasn't great (during PIT's lull post-cups, then Ottawa while still rebuilding). On top of that, you have the Leafs medical staff to try to keep him together, and a backup that can likely take more games than he has in the past to give Murray some relief.

Everything is going to be a gamble, short of paying Campbell 4-4.5 mil, but he's also got injury history, is considered streaky, and has only had 1-2 seasons where he's performed well enough to be considered a starter (and is now 30). So... I don't know what the answer is, but if Campbell is looking for 4.5 x 5 or something, I don't know that I'd be comfortable with it enough to not try someone in a similar vein instead.

The gap between Mrazek and Murray half retained is very minimal, maybe the 3rd, not nearly as much as what you have here

Year of kerfoot and Holl who could be re signed or moved at TDL for at minimum another 2nd and 3rd. On top of that another 1st and 3rd.

So just to straighten this out ottawa takes on 675k x 2 and receives a 50 point wingercentre a 4/5 rhd, a 1st and a 3rd. Does that seem reasonable?

Well when you put it that way.. maybe a first is too much of an overpay and they just axe the 2nd coming back.

I mean maybe? I just think the Leafs could do better. Obviously clearing cap is the goal here, but I don’t think they’re any better off with Murray than they are with Mrazek and they’re kinda giving up a lot to make the swap, even if Kerfoot and Holl are assets they’re trying to move anyways

I don't think my passive aggressive sarcasm came through in that reply. That trade is hideous. A 50 point winger an rhd a 1st and a 3rd is ridiculous. Any one of those pieces is an overpay for 675k retention.
