Fiala Trade Targets

Created by: Kado777
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 14, 2022
Published: Jun. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a list of players and picks that I believe the Wild should target in a Fiala trade. Some players/picks would need value added on MN end (Clarke and #2 for example) and may be a stretch to acquire, and some players would not be primary pieces in a deal.

Along with this, I think any top 100 2023 picks should also be targeted.

Wild fans, Let me know what players you would also like to see, what players you would be out on, and players for other teams that you think could be a possible fit for a Fiala deal.

Fans of teams that may be targeting Fiala, who is absolutely untouchable from your team (meaning Fiala + picks/prospects would not be possible)? Who would you be inclined to move for Fiala?

The only piece from ANA that would be remotely available for Fiala would be the BOS first

MIN has no leverage in any Fiala deal

Wild may not have as much leverage as they think on this one.

It costs a 1st, 2nd, 3rd to get Fiala from an offer sheet. We'd offer Turcotte and a 1st max, if that isn't enough send the offer sheet, Fiala was clear that he'd sign around $7.5M and the Wild were clear they wouldn't.

This is just not true. Wild still have plenty of leverage, we do not have to trade Fiala. We can trade Dumba and clear the required cap space.

Not if a team offersheets him at 7x7.5, which MIN has already shown they wont do

GMs typically don’t like to offer sheet because “what goes around comes around”. And the “wild don’t have leverage angle is incorrect, the Wild have plenty of leverage here. We hold the player you all want. If you want him, you’ve gotta pay fair value for him. If not, we have other pieces we can move out and keep Fiala.

GMs rarely offer sheet. It’s kind of an unwritten rule amongst GMs. If someone wants to do that, fine, BG takes the picks. Or he trades Dumba and signs Fiala to the extension.

While Fiala is a good fit for the Isles there would need to be other moves to facilitate a trade. At a minimum the Isles would have to move Bailey in this trade, or find a 3rd team to take his salary or there is no way the Isles can afford Fiala.

NYI
Fiala
3rd Rd pick (3rd Team)

MINN
2022 Isles 1st
Holmstrom

The problem is if you had an offer for a 1st + top prospect, but you turned it down and immediately got an offer sheet, as a GM you didn't get the highest return you for that player. He is against a clock, and that is leverage.

MN would probably want Raty and 13OA. That beats 7OA Sens package IMO. *MN did pass on Raty twice last draft though.

He’s got 5-6 maybe more teams interested. That’s leverage. And he’s trading him or Dumba at the draft (July 7-8). Which is before FA begins July 13th. So really offer sheet issue won’t even happen, Fiala will be traded by then.

That's fine but in no world are we trading Clarke (let alone more assets) for Fiala. And if that's what you are looking for the Kings are out.

Do not see the Isles moving Raty or Wahlstrom.

Wahlstrom should finally get a shot with Barzal this year with a coach that will give him a fair chance.

Raty is already the Isles best prospect and with Nelson and Pageau both reaching the age where decline will start happening Raty is critical to the teams near future.

Although this isn’t a home run offer, I do think it could be more interesting than an offer sheet if it comes down to it.

Definitely wouldn’t be Clarke plus anything for Fiala. I was thinking potentially something like Fiala and LHD Ryan O’Rourke for Clarke as a base for a deal

I think a more fair deal would be R1 and Turcotte or Vilardi.

I don’t honestly see Dallas as a trade partner for Fiala. Minny would absolutely be asking for top prospects and Dallas shouldn’t be trading their top prospects. Minny also can’t really take salary back in the deal. I love me some Fiala, but any offer that would work for Dallas would likely be easily beat by another team. Something along the lines of Guri, 2022 first, and a non first round pick or prospect not named Johnston, Stankoven, or Bourque. I feel like somebody else would easily beat that

Raty seems to have more fans here than in the real world. The Isles beat writer for the Athletic said 13 + Raty is a fair deal and one he could see happening.

I said we'd offer that, but if the Wild didn't accept I'd offersheet Fiala, we gave them a chance at a fair deal, I'd prefer a 1st, 2nd, 3rd over 1st and Turcotte.

Oh I missed that, sorry. yeah, I think that would be a strong offer. Don’t know if that would beat Sens offer if they are truly offering a package around 7OA, but definitely in the ballpark. Turcotte has lost some steam over the years and projects as more of a L2 C right? That might be the only thing that gives BG some caution, but who knows, it’s a guessing game.

The price-setting will be dictated by

1. Fiala (he has to agree to sign extension)
2. Other team (as they know they are where Fiala has agreed to sign)
3. Guerin's price

In other words, Fiala probably gets his contract demands met, but trade price could be a lot lower than many expect.

Agree on Wahlstrom, the stuff I’ve read indicates he isn’t going anywhere.

You’ve got that backwards. Russo has talked about this actually, BG will have his demands met first, and then allow the teams (yes, multiple) and Fiala to talk.

2C or 3C is fair for Turcotte, I think the Kings are more interested in using these assets to get Chychrun. But Fiala would definitely be a backup plan.

Or trade him at the deadline. Or extend him. We have options. You just want Fiala for cheap you’re ignoring that. We can trade other pieces and keep Fiala. Russo of the athletic has indicated he’s moving Fiala because he sees it as his best chance to get a really good asset back in return. If he moved Dumba, it wouldn’t be for a lot. That’s why we’re trading Fiala, not because “no cap space”.
