If we could afford to extend him, I’d do this. Much rather pay a big contract to someone in their 20s and in their prime then someone in their mid 30s.

Even though he is an upcoming RFA, it's basically the same situation with him as JT Miller.

Literally no Cap room after next Season to sign him to the much larger deal he will get.

Which makes it impossible to rationalize giving up that package to bring in a guy for 1 year, and then blow everything up.

Yes but he’s much younger and entering his prime versus Miller who is already there and not likely to improve anymore as he gets older. I’d rather figure out the cap mess with a guy who’s 24 making big money than a guy who’s already 29. Plus at 24 he fits into the core of Shesty, Fox, Lindgren, Laf, Kakko, Chytil, Schneider and hopefully Kravtsov who are all between 20-26.

NYR isn't buying Trouba out, and Hawks will get much better offers elsewhere.

If thats the sort of offers we are fielding, we won't be moving Cat. He doesn't move for quantity, it will need to be high end quality in return.

IF NYR really were looking and I don't think they are then Laf would be a must in any package.

Debrincat would be sooooo awesome for the Rangers to get, but I'd bet he'd cost a lot more than what we've started with here, especially since he's got 2(?) more years of control
