Take out the retention and sharks probably still don’t do it

Flames easily decline. 118 points in the OHL in 67 games isn't getting traded anytime soon. Also Flames won't retain a cent

Lol Sharks fans posted that exact trade on my last one and said my other proposal was too unfair in the Sharks favor

Canes have no need, want, or even interest in Girgensons. Doesn’t play a positional need, and would only block prospects from making the jump, like J. Drury. Not to mention, Drury is cheaper and ultimately will probably be better in the long run.

Monahan isn't gonna cost a 2nd+good prospect to dump with retention. He probably won't cost anything at all to dump at full cost honestly. If I told you a 27yo centre with 7 20+ goal seasons (and 3 30+ goal seasons) was available for 1 year, and has had some injury concerns but projects to be healthy for training camp, there are probably a few teams that would be willing to take a chance on that, given that there's next to no risk for a team near the floor, and the upside is you get the top 6 centre back, who is either still young enough to be worth holding onto for a few years if it's a good fit, or would bring in a nice haul at the TDL if he bounces back. Monahan's just had this stigma attached to him because he had a "down" season where he played most of it injured and without consistent linemates (like it was a rotating cast of Nordstrom, Ritchie, Leivo, Simon, etc. all of whom suck) that I just really don't understand

He brings some grit and vet presence to bottom six

Sharks aren’t retaining $10 mil for a boarder line 3C, a goalie who will be a ufa after the year and those picks.

They aren’t injury concerns, they are bona fide injuries. Surgery on both hips is no joke he isn’t getting any better after those and at best he puts up 2/3 the production he used to

Tell that to every Sharks fan on my prior post who said it was a fair trade

That’s the problem. Canes already have enough players for the bottom 6, with a couple others down in Chicago that should be with the Canes if it weren’t for the depth the Canes have. They need more top 6 scoring, a pure goal scorer being the ideal route, and Girgs doesn’t provide that. It’s a pointless addition, and it’s one that would hurt the Canes more than actually help them.

Honestly, I'm not sure Drury isn't better than Girgensens now. Drury is a goal a game at the NHL level you know /s

On a serious note, watching him with the Wolves, the kid is... I wanna say the real deal but it feels wrong when he's playing most of the Calder Cup Finals series against James Neal. You get what I mean
