Jesper Boqvist is not a 2C. He’s an average 3C for us

Serious question for Leafs fans: do you think Tavares has positive value? If so what?

Is he only not a 2C because he is behind Nico and Jack in the depth chart? or is he just not much a C at all?

To the chagrin of the legions of leaf haters on here. JT is still very much a great player. In any other market he wouldn't take 10% of the heat he does now.

I don't really think he does unfortunately at this point in his career. So I think they are best to move him to the wing and try and find a good 2C option.

He is still good but unless a team is willing to help out on the cap side of things (Arizona/Chicago) there is no real positive value for a team to take him on.

He’s one of the best face off men in the league lol. Maybe he’s not worth 11 million but if he is overpaid it’s not significant.

I’m not a leafs fan, but I would put him on a depreciating value or possibly 8 million/5million/3million, over the next three years depending on health and depth around him. Also maybe 5 and hold, but with that contract not sure any rebuild or retool is looking for what he is offering, so he’s Toronto for 3 years. Will be interesting after three if he comes back on the minimum for a couple more to try to finish the job on a cup.

He is, I am just looking outside the box for some upgrades that is all. Most the Leaf's ACGM teams have people trying to find Tavares next wing thought I would open discussion on this angle see what people think. Also wonder if he is too slow to play the center spot anymore and would be best suited on the wing?

Being a 3C on a worse team doesn't make someone a 2C on a better team. JT is still a 1C on a pile of teams.

I don’t agree with that assessment tbh. His speed is fine and the real issue is that they don’t have consistency on the back end or at the winger position.

If Toronto fans want him gone so badly I’d be more than happy to take him back if you gave us Sandin JK lol

And a point a game player and terrific leader. He's only overpaid because a unforseen global pandemic caused the cap to remain stagnant for 3 years. Had it moved up as predicted when he signed, he wouldn't even be overpriced.

Being a 2C when Matthews is on your team, doesn't mean you are a 2C on every team. He's the best player on a lot of teams without question.

Idk why he’s being scapegoated when the real issue is all the terrible contracts Dubas handed out to d men and goalies. Muzzin trade was a complete disaster and that contract made it worse.

No your right but there are players that would be very good 2C's that only fall in the 3C spot because of who is ahead of them. Best example is NJD's they have guys that can play C and maybe do it in a top 6 role but they are not surpassing Jack and Nico.

The leaf's could look at some of the guys from the list like Ryan Strome who would be a good 2C on any team. Then it gives them the option to be able to move some parts around.

PLD is the only 2C on that list all the others are 3C at this point

Leafs have enough centres when you include Kerfoot. Cap is needed for goalie. I doubt the Leafs have any cap to get to trade for an upgrade in the forward positions.
