I just tried something but crap contracts hold me down

Created by: Momz
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 26, 2022
Published: Jun. 26, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Man, this one is so tough since half the cap space is reserved for unmoveable contracts. Seriously what was this team thinking?

I moved Hill to NSH and Simek to AZ to free up some money for this year and the following one. Hearing Ken Holland, it does seem like Pulju isn't very high on his priority list. Oilers fans say that a 2nd isn't enough but I doubt Ken is willing to pay 4.2M AAV which is my offer sheet (similar to Kotkaniemi). Would like to see how he, Dahlen, and Barabanov fight for the higher RW spot possible.

On the defensive side, there is basically 0 flexibility with the three contracts. It is basically the same thing.

This team can't go to the FA market and can't/won't send picks to dump the +7M contracts. Curious to see what the Sharks will do about (EK,Burns,Vlasic,Couture) in a few years.

Trades

SJS
  1. 2023 6th round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
A very late pick. Purpose is just to get his 2M contract off the books. It's not like SJ is gonna re-sign him anyway.
NSH
  1. Hill, Adin
Additional Details:
He can be a serviceable backup (since Saros doesn't have one). Only 1 year to his contract.
2.
SJS
  1. 2024 7th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
An extra pick this year for a 7th in 2 years. Why not. + they aren't forced to play him.
ARI
  1. Simek, Radim
  2. 2022 6th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
A very small cap dump, but after this move I am now around 11M in cap space, if I want to make a move or just free up money for next year (since Simek has 2 years left and Meier will need an extension next year).

You can definitely get value back for Burns, particularly if retention is involved. Unfortunately for the Sharks, I don’t think retaining on Burns would be the best idea, since many of the upcoming contracts would be due in 1-2 years, and if Burns gets moved with retention, they are stuck with that for 3 years.

Vlasic would probably be better served as a buyout than a dump, and while the Sharks would be stuck with the penalty for 8 years, I think they would rather do that than give up at least a first. EK is just unmovable at this point.

NSH declines. They've got Ingram to backup Saros.

This makes no sense. They need cap space for contracts coming up so they shouldn’t retain in a burns trade? I mean $2 mil retention for a net of $6 mil in cap a year sounds pretty nice compared to $8 mil a year. That money could go a long way.

Personally, I've got more confidence in Ingram than I do in Hill.

I’m talking about half retention. I guess I didn’t make that clear in my original post. 2 mil should be doable, but the teams he would accept a trade to will almost certainly need half retention. For a Burns trade, I can definitely see it being a 3 team trade, just for the retention purposes.
