That should be a no from Ottawa. JBD and Pinto in the same deal would be a non starter.

For a 24 year old 40 goal scorer you’re going to have to pay a big price

Was going to say too much but a '23 1st and a late 2nd this year... I'd pull the trigger.

Would much rather keep an Zaitsev dump separate. Pinto, Greig, 7th oa plus next years first looks absolutely terrible at face value.

Side note, Murphy's owed almost 11m over the next two years in real money. Even with Melnyk gone I dont think thats a contract that Dorion would prioritize.

Honestly don't mind that at all. Its a big swing for Ottawa and i think its the franchise altering move that they need. Greig and Pinto is tough but palatable.

It's not terrible at face value when you consider Zaits being a dump and Murphy a big upgrade over Zaits. It makes a lot of sense for both teams. With that new roster, Ottawa has a very good shot at making the playoffs. Hawks just aren't going to move Cat for the kind of package offered in this AGM in my opinion keeping in mind how weak the 1st round looks this year and RHD is the one area the Hawks look okay with.

LOL not happening. you're basically asking for 4 high first round picks... Let that sink in... much prefer paying 1 high pick and a prospect for Fiala, and getting a top 4 D for a prospect and a couple picks... Im sure any player who has a good shot could score 40 goals with Kane on their line.

Two of Ottawa's best and most NHL ready prospects along with 7th oa and a potential lottery ticket in the best draft of almost the last decade isnt great face value. I'm not saying it's bad but Pinto is 100% in the top 9 and given Greig's preseason in the NHL and his play in junior he probably is too. Theyre top 30 prospects in the league.

Zaitsev is a cap dump and obviously Murphy is better than that. But the cost of the dump plus whatever the cost of Murphy would be a lot more palatable if kept separate.

Obviously not the same situation, despite the fact that Cat is owed a massive raise on a new contract after this season but you could argue that Ottawa is giving more up that Vegas did for Eichel. Pinto and Krebs are the same age/draft and of a similar pedigree. Then Ottawa is giving 7th vs Vegas giving 16th so add whatever value that is to Greig and a '23 1st vs Tuch and a late Vegas '23 2nd. Dont think its far off by any means and as much as I love what Cat does he's not Eichel (healthy).

Cat is worth as much as Eichel, if not more.
1) Eichel, in a public display forced Buffalo's hands in season. How many teams could and were willing to play cap gymnastics mid season? Market demand is everything and that reduced the market for Eichel
2) Eichel having a major surgery with a questionable long term prognosis. I've had the surgery and his outcome long term will not be good taking hits. This has been already proven in the NFL.
3) UFA in 4 years, versus RFA and a year younger. Team team acquiring Cat can sign a 8 year extension.
4) $10M cap hit. Cat's QO is $9M after his current bargain contract expires.

Those main factors had a major impact on Buffalo's return. If you remove them, and create parity to Cat (healthy, not at odds with his team, RFA, cheaper cap hit, traded in the offseason) Eichel would have gone for substantially more.

Last thing I'll say is the #7OA would be equivalent to the #15 last year...it's a weak top 10 this draft year so that's parity with the Vegas pick in my opinion.

I don't need anything to sink in. If you've followed the insiders, the Hawks are asking for a top NHL prospect, a young NHL player, and (2) first round picks one being a high pick. Hawks aren't in a position needing to move Cat, so it makes sense they are asking for a lot and they should. If someone bites, great, if not then move on.

The #7OA is worth a mid first in a typical year given how weak the top 10 is this year. Ottawa has a very good shot at the playoffs with this kind of move, so that's probably a mid first next year. Greig was a late 1st round pick and production in the WHL is a far cry from the pros so while his value has increased, his stock hasn't changed to the point you think he's worth a high first round pick all of the sudden (maybe in the weak 2022 draft but otherwise no). So no, this is NOT 4 high first round picks. I get every fan is really high on their prospects and draft picks, but the reality is very few meet the high expectations fans put on them. Cat is elite, Pinto is not, Greig is a long shot to be, and those two picks are dice rolls.

yikes. I hope Ottawa gets Fiala. This has Karlsson trade all over it.

Fiala is a good option, cheaper as rightfully so he's not Cat but he's a good option. There are rumors around the Devils offering the #2OA (Cooley) and Alexander Holtz for Cat, now that's a good deal and a stronger one then this.

Well I'm not the Hawks and you aren't Ottawa so who knows what the professionals will end up doing or not doing, just based on what the insiders are reporting. LA is also in the mix, and they have a deeper prospect pool then both Ottawa and NJD.
