The Dvorak trade was obviously a mistake, and the Habs would probably prefer to move on from him, even if they can't get a first back.

17 pts in 22 GP under St. Louis (while playing a significant role on special teams and faceoffs)... a pace of 63 pts over a full season. You're ready to give up on him after a miserable Ducharme year?

Drouin needs a change of scenery for his own sake. He's been getting flamed by Montreal media and needs to get a second chance somewhere else.
Yes he needs a change of scenery, he will get it. He's a UFA after next year. In the meantime Drouin can take one last stab in MTL (hopefully healthy under St. Louis) and we see what happens. There is no reason to trade him unless we need the cap space (which we don't with the moves you've made, you're just trading him from the sake of moving on). Most people forget Drouin was actually MTL's most productive player under the terrible Ducharme team until he got hurt. He was one of the few players playing ok. Curious to see what he could do under St. Louis.

Moving up to 18 from 62 is huge, and definitely worth it. Rumours have already reported that the Habs will move Petry and acquire a top 4 dman to take that spot. Allen helps Edmonton with their goalie problem, and comes at a good price. If the Habs are willing to be bad, why not let Allen win somewhere else, and lose with Khudobin.
Would an 18th pick be nice? For sure. Do 18th overall picks always turn into impact players? No (probably 50%), and this draft isn't regarded as very deep. Petry is a bona-fide top pairing D (scored at a pace of +60 pts under St. Louis and had Norris consideration the previous year while Julien was coaching). Ducharme did so much damage to this team.
I could live with this without giving up the 62nd pick. Ristolainen got 14th overall, Hagg, and a 2nd round pick when he was a pending UFA.
If you're trading Allen for the sake of being bad and rebuilding then get a draft pick or a young player, not Barrie. I'd rather see them add someone like Subban in free agency than trade for Barrie. Barrie is not needed in MTL.
