Philly would be insanely stupid to trade their 23 1st. Bertuzzi isn’t saving them from being one of the worst teams next year.

I agree but unfortunately for them Fletcher is their GM. Considering all their moves this offseason Fletcher consider them being in the hunt for playoffs and may then trade out a struggling Provorov (who underperform relative to his cap) and JVR and get the best player in this trade for 2.375 mil while also freeing up 11,5 mil to use in the free agency. The upcoming season is Fletcher's 4th season with Flyers as he was hired July 11 2019. He won't care about their 1st and may upgrade massively with that cap space freed up. If everything goes as planned and Torts get them under control the pick won't be an issue. If the pick is a high pick Fletcher will be in trouble anyways.

this is just ridiculous. I just cant seem to find anywhere about these JVR rumors that would send Bertuzzi there. Taking two bad contracts from Philly so that they can have half off Bertuzzi and sign Gaudreau is just dumb. I assume you are a Philly fan because there is 0 benefit to the Wings in that trade.

The point of this move though would allow philly to sign Gaudreau as well. So they would be replacing Provorov and JVR with Bertuzzi, Gaudreau and Deangelo. Highly likely that pick isnt going to be a top 10 pick next year. This trade would actually be a joke for Detroit, who pretty much gets a expensive defenseman, a useless forward and a mid 1st round pick for eating salary and helping Philly.

our response here is 100% why this trade is garbage. Why would Yzerman help them free up 11.5M? There is nothing here for Detroit as you are claiming "a struggling Provorov (who underperform relative to his cap)"... Just insanity how you think this trade is actually decent in anyway for Detroit. I dont see anywhere in Yzerman's history where he has helped out a team so much. Not starting now.

You don't think a Provorov for our LD and a 2023 1st is a good addition for Detroit? We got a glaring hole on our LD and there is no capable LD that would be good enough as a 1st LD together with Moritz. Provorov needs a change of scenery and he would get a fresh start in Detroit under Lalonde. We also need to reach the cap floor + JVR's 7 mil is only for this year. The Matt Murray trade & buyout would only last 4 years and our window is 4-5 years from now. The 1st rounder would be unprotected as well. We need to stock pile draft picks and add on our LD. This trade addresses both of these issues.

I mean just a complete release of all bodily functions haha. That'd be an incredible trade for Detroit.

Bertuzzi's greatest value will be at the trade deadline. We shouldnt be bailing teams out at our own expense. Giving them Bertuzzi for $2M is only going to allow them to go spend $11M more in free agency. Last year they underperformed heavily. That 1st round pick for Bertuzzi and taking a shot a a $6.5M defenseman with 3 years left isnt worth it at all. JVR to clear space, im ok with working out some sort of deal... but really Yzerman is savy and smart. This trade would have everyone concerned he fell and bumped his head. If you compared Provorov's numbers with Staal last year, they wouldnt be far off and we could just keep Staal for $2M. Im just saying that this trade would allow philly to get better, which likely then they make the playoffs and that pick has way less value then it does right now when they suck. so take JVR and a 1st for a 4th and move on. No Provorov high risk when you have Sieder who will need a contract in 2 years.. And when Sieder outperforms Provorov by 10 fold, he will use provorovs contract as his baseline. Just way too many risks and I dont see one possible reward.

Wings not taking on Murray just to buy him out. It is not this year or next year that hurts it is year3 and 4,when Seider and Vrana need new deals and Murray will eat 2.5 million in cap when the Wings will need money to sign some of their RFA's & UFA's to new contracts

Philly passes. Remove the first and you can keep the retention. But I think this only works with an extension in palace

I see where you’re coming from on the “helping out Philly” angle, maybe the perspective is off but, agree with you about the trade not being greatly beneficial to the wings.

It is essentially two trades in one:

a retained Bertuzzi for Provorov

and a 1st for taking JVR, which isn’t likely to be a lottery pick.

The 2nd part of that trade is where the value is for the wings. As far the Prov for Bert swap, getting what I believe to be a legitimate top 4 defenseman isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I’m just not in love with retaining the salary AND taking on $14m in new money. I think that Philly would need to give a little more to make the deal work in our favor.

Yeah, this trade just causes more harm than good. I’m not sure what scenario or return would make it make sense for the wings but, I’d stay away from any deals that require us to face any salary cap ramifications beyond 1-2 years.

If all goes well the next two years, Raymond & Seider will cost close to $20m annually. Can’t have dead money on the books by that time; and we won’t.

The way people throw labels like “struggling D” to describe Provorov while creaming for a guy like Chychurn is hilarious

Chychurn had a .05 PPg better average last year and is injury prone as hell. The two have the same stats and advanced stats over their career and this past year was barley any difference

Yeah that's fair. I was dubious to the trade myself but it makes sense in any way to me. Detroit will have enough cap to resign everyone they need to resign in year 3 and 4. 2,5 mil is nothing and won't affect the resigns of our top talent. But I get where ur coming from. Had they not traded for Husso it kind of would've made sense without a buyout. Red Wings will have lots of cap still by year 3 and 4 as Hronek won't get 4,4 again and ELC players like Edvinsson, Söderblom, Cossa etc. will still be on their ELC. But it was just a hot take to gain 2 relatively high draft picks.
