This is a terrible idea for the pens.

Why do pens fans seem obsessed with trading Marino for aging veterans and rentals? If the pens want to win a cup then they will need young talent and good young players to do it. Marino’s contract is fantastic for Pittsburgh and dealing him would be a stupid thing to do imo.

It’s not necessarily a want of moving him as much as it used to be from some pens fans. Now it’s become a need for us. We’ve got to clear cap and no one wants Pettersson’s contract (not worth the money he plays for) and management doesn’t seem too open to moving Dumoulin. So, that leaves Marino as the only other viable option to move. And Marino has value on the market so it works out both ways. We clear cap, and we are able to trade for a Miller/Garland type guy. It’s a win win.

I could see the pens moving Pettersson to a team below the cap floor. Anaheim might make some sense tbh. Moving Dumoulin would be way easier tho.

I agree, I’m hopeful and optimistic 2 ends will meet sooner than later. However, with Dumoulin it becomes a process because the NTC comes into play and then that just makes things harder on us to move him out and find a suitor. And if he’s going to waive, it’s not gonna be to a dumpster fire like 75% of these trade offers have him going to. It just doesn’t work like that unfortunately.

MTL would still decline IMO
Can't see K. Hughes trading Josh Anderson after going after big guys like Slafkovski and Dach
But value wise Anderson vs Marino is fair

Especially when you consider Rutta would replace him. We'd be giving up our 2nd PP QB and top PK minute muncher with an overpaid traffic cone who doesn't really do special teams and the small sample of time he has played has been horrible.

Add in the fact Dumo had off-season knee surgery to repair an MCL tear. He may not even be ready to start the season. Nobody is trading for him until they see how his play is post-op

Every fan base defends signings online and rips them in person lol. I have gotten very different responses about the Trocheck deal on here then I have from friends of mine lol.

I will always call out bad trades and signings. I just have no problem doing it before it becomes obvious on the ice. I just smirk and enjoy the look of utter disbelief that comes when they realize a girl was right Haha

Moral of the story is that if you think Jan Rutta is good then you shouldn’t tell women they don’t know anything about hockey. Or just don’t say it at all lol.

I'm not sure I would consider Miller or Anderson aging veteran's nor rentals. They need good players who can help them win now. Like yeah it's great if they're young and good, but young isn't mandatory.

I like Marino and his contract is good, but there's no reason to sign Rutta if you're keeping Marino. They need another good forward - of which pretty much all have been signed. So a trade is all that's left. That being said - a trade for Anderson is definitely not the move lol

Rutta should be traded or bought out by august. Same as Ben Chiarot lmao.

There's no reason to think Matheson can't run the 2nd PP - he played almost the same amount on the PP as Marino. Rutta is nowhere near as good as Marino but I would much rather have Rutta 2nd pairing and a good forward than having Rutta slot behind Marino and no forward improvement. Just my personal opinion

Lol - I mean the sign never should have happened, I agree. I just can't see a reason to keep Rutta and Marino for a team that clearly needs another forward and doesn't have cap space.

It's not like Rutta is Jack Johnson either. Yeah he benefitted from Hedman but he still has average metrics and above average possession numbers and played on a team that went to 3 straight cups

Worst part is that he regressed last year. I didn’t even know he could do that at this point.

Most Isles fans remember Rutta for running away from Barzal after he made a dirty play and then diving to the ice.

Did he though?

He scored points at a higher rate and was higher in every possession metric - Corsi, Fenwick, Goals for, expected goals for, and scoring chances, etc. I don't watch every Tampa game obviously so I don't know - I just find that hard to believe

He’s brutal to watch lol. His metrics look fine but actually watching him was painful. I was rooting for him against the rangers lol.
