Possibly tbh and Kerfoot has a 750k salary for the rest of his contract which has 1 yr left. The Leafs need a Konecny in their top 6 imo and beside guys like JT and Nylander he could have a career yr trading Kerfoot means you lose defensive structure but Aston Reese is a defensive machine so he'd replace him

All the trades are no and the Milano and Aston-Reese contracts are bad ones. I could see good ole Kyle offering a bad contract like that though

isles decline, no use taking on extra cap and an inferior player for a 5th rounder

Wouldn't call him inferior? Holl is a solid player and it was Lou Lamoriello who gave him the chance in Toronto to begin with so he clearly likes him as a player

Now that Lyubushkin is gone, trading Holl makes no sense unless Muzzin and Sandin are both staying, and they are getting that physical RHD to replace Holl.

Other than that and adding, more cheap contracts to the bottom 6, this team is set to start the season. If they can move Muzzin and free up cap, while addressing that RHD need that would be good. The other option is to trade Kerfoot to fill that need.

At this point they need to just fix the D and forward depth, and if they can free up cap while doing that it would help for acquisitions later in the season. Robertson gets a look at the 2LW spot and if he doesn't work then they acquire someone later in the season. The most important part though is to get the D right.

It still doesn't make sense to swap out a player who you know works in your system and is paid $1.45M to bring in a newer guy with a higher cap hit for the sake of a lottery ticket 5th rounder. If you're asking a team to move a player they don't need to move, you've got to make it a little more worth their while than this.

he’s not significantly better than mayfield, that’s for sure. why would the isles make this move? taking on more cap for a player who’s at best just as good as mayfield is?

Bingo

ZAR has no offensive aspect to him, why would he pay him 2m when he signed Aube-Kubel for 1m for the same role? Nick Ritchie had 26 Pts at least and he was probably the only option left for a budget "offensive" player with size at the time.

Of course this goes both ways, Toronto would do it since it frees up cap and it's low cost so worth the risk.

You make an excellent point that so many people miss with ACGMs or mock trades or on twitter lol, you don't just make moves for the sake of making moves. Just because a player does good in one teams system doesn't mean he will do good in another team-this last part is especially relevant when they suggest to trade the farm along with a top player like Nylander for another team's star.

I’d rather sit on Konecny and get nothing if his value doesn’t raise than make that trade

Dubas is not making any moves. Made that clear at the beginning of the offseason. Absolutely pitiful job this year.
