Haha, as fun as that might make the trade tree look, I don't think he'd ever go back to Columbus and he might not be welcome anyway.

Much as I love the storyline of bringing Murphy home, I think the price is too high for Columbus. There will be a way to clear cap without giving up that much in addition to Gus, and this scenario leaves basically no cap flexibility at the trade deadline.

Concerns about Murphy's price aside, does this team really need flexibility at the deadline? I guess it's always nice to have, but with the situation they're in and all the youth, I don't think they have any business trying to be buyers at the deadline.

I like it. Bringing another hometown kid back to Columbus.
Not sure the value is there with the trade, as Chicago would probably hold out for a 1st rd pick after getting hosed so bad in the Jones trade.
That being said, these moves should take the team right up to the Voracek contract expiration, when some of the younger kids will need new contracts (Sillinger, Tex, Marchenko, Johnson, etc.).

Deadline, hell. It leaves no flexibility in case someone gets injured. And it renders it almost impossible to extend Texier, Peeke, and Gavrikov.

Yeah, but when have injuries ever been a problem for Columbus? /s
