How does Kadri work here

Created by: CMac66
Team: 2023-24 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 15, 2022
Published: Jul. 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I really don't understand how Kadri works here. Going off 8m a season and say MacKinnon going for 13? Maybe he accepts less I don't know. But even with the cap going up 1m, they're 1D and 3F short of icing a roster let alone 3 scratches. Say MacKinnon did 12 and Kadri 7.5? 1.5m isn't going to save them. Byram is trending and will get the Girard contract maybe more like say 6m. Trading Toews just creates a problem. Then paying Newhook, he's going to have at least a half ppg. So I don't see where Kadri can fit and not create big problems the following year.

Girard would be nice but Wings do not have the cap to acquire him and then give raises to Larkin and Bertuzzi next year.

Detroit is no longer in the market for a LHD. We really only needed stopgap LHD and we have those now. In the next 3 years, Edvinsson, Wallinder and Johansson will ALL be top 4 LHD, mark my words. Adding another one (especially at the cost of our only legit RHD prospect) just doesn't make sense for our long term plans, regardless of value.

Love how the team explanation mentions making future raises work, maybe it's just cause I live just outside of Toronto but I think that's only something gms worry about when it comes up, not a year prior

Detroit should absolutely still be in the market for a LHD, Stevie would take that and run.

Really didn't care who I traded him to. But I think Edvinsson will most likely be one. The other 2 are promising but we can't be sure. Might as well have a top 4 D then hope for one in 2-4 years

If GMs (or their cap strategists) aren't projecting cap 1,2 3 years out they shouldn't have a job
