Git her done Hughes

Created by: willinlisbon
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 17, 2022
Published: Jul. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Two 1sts and some nhl calber players and two top end prospects should get this done. With PLD the need for a 1st decreases significantly especially when our cupboard is stacked with top prospects.

Also potential to move out a winger and dman to free up cap space for short term solutions . I chose a dman in this scenario in order to bring back PK

If Jets do this they should go and do a full rebuild. Three firsts in the Bedard draft and they already have a handful of good prospects. Then they can trade Scheifele and a couple others to recoup more young assets.

On the Habs side getting rid of Dvorak and Drouin is alright and PLD acquisition is good since he will only play in MTL. The Gallagher and Anderson contracts are not looking good though, they should find a way to get out of at least one of them, most likely Anderson.

MTL has no interest in getting rid of MSL 2nd highest producing turning around after he took over.
PLD and Suzuki are below average at Faceoffs and Dvorak is a top 10 NHL Faceoff Center for years
He's the guy you want taking Bulk Draw on a playoff run

IF MTL's trading its 1st clearly we're not Tanking
Acquiring PLD only makes sense if you're building for a Playoff Run
MTL would throw in Evans as he's cheap effective and can be sold down the road to cap strapped teams

Drouin
Evans
Norlinder
1st in 2023(MTL)
1st in 2023(FLA)
2nd in 2023 (MTL)

MTL will offer just over the OS value with 2 players who WPG can play then sell at TDL's down the road.
Either Way MTL will OS PLD and WPG matching would be a toxic situation making him even harder to trade

Gally busted up his hand before
Rehabbed it and came back to score his back to back 30 goal seasons
This is after his 3 Wrist injuries and a surgery inside 12month
Stu Cowan was suggesting like Latendresse that Gally may be forced to retire.

Instead Gally stormed back like a champ
Anderson is overpaid 750k-1m but he's a great player
When MSL said he moved Anderson to Suzuki-Caufields line to give them Protection
He really understood the space an Anderson create's for them as Suzuki has 20 pts in 21 games
Caufield had 25pts in 21 games and Anderson had 16 pts in 21 games with inconsistent numbers on paper and big games
Reality is he gets the puck in the zone and keeps it there so his team can set up the plays
While he doesnt always get the Assists or Goals for it MSL always made sure to underscore his Value.
Had we not taken Slapkovsky im sure Anderson would be staying TBH

If Hughes gives up that much for Dubois, he should instantly be fired.

I won’t debate the PLD trade, though I agree that the Habs would be better off moving Anderson or Gallagher and moving Dach to the wing. Dvorak is a useful 2-3 centre. But….

Edmundson is likely going to be captain this year, so trading away his leadership would be a mistake.

PK Subban is the exact opposite of Edmundson. He is a leadership black hole and would undermine the team-building efforts in Montreal. Bringing him back would be a colossal mistake. Better to just wait to see who is available on waivers.

If Montreal were to offer sheet that/those 1sts are now unprotected. Big risk for Montreal.

That is WAY TOO MUCH for PLD.
Anyway he wants to play for the Habs in 2 years when he hits UFA and Habs don't have a Stanley Cup window for another 2 years.

2 first round picks?????? Not even one. Habs are in rebuild and want and need those 2 1st round picks.

And 3 years at 3 for Subban?

Maybe one year at 750k.

Even with protection it just rolls over to 2024 where it will be unprotected and Montreal will still be bad. That alone is worth more than PLD whom has his agent telling teams hes going to Montreal in 2024, regardless. If Chevy doesnt check his ego and take the L now instead of letting PLD walk. The Gaudreau case should be a warning. Calgary is in shambles, you dont let guys walk for nothing! The Isles/Tavares case is rare.

Not at all

Anyone who thinks Suzuk,PLD , Dvorak and Evans as a Center group is missing the playoffs
Well they didnt watch a single F'n game MSL coached last years as Suzuki,Dvorak and Evans are all his guys he used A Lot

Slavkosky -Suzuki-Caufield alone is enough to drag us just out of a top 10 draft selection
MSL on PP with that lot while Matheson runs the PP from the Point is a good combination

MTL hasnt finished this low since after their 2010 push at the ECF left them depleted.
Molson came in 2 weeks before the draft buying the team pi**ing away all our assets early on then drafting Leblanc in MTL over Kreider
By the time our 2011-12 season came we were nothing being held together but Mike Cammaleri and Brian Gionta really
Then our POS Coach Gauthier traded Cammalerri mid game stripped him of his jersey and had him tossed from the building
That lead to his firing mid season where MTL went without a GM for nearly 6 months in a Free Fall

That was the last time we were this bad
Last year with Injuries and Covid Protocol we were handcuffed
That is not a normal circumstance and usually MTL finishes just good enough to not get a top 10 pick
A lot of the time you're looking at a pick 10th-25th OA which are traded constantly and easy to recoop

The only reason you'd worry is if you thought we couldnt win a game
Based on the Size of the Team hughes is building we will be able to Bully our way to wins we dont deserve
Whether its Allen , Price ,Montembault of Primeau in Net im confident in MTL's goaltending more then i am 17/32 other teams Goaltending.

Our Dcore needs a big RD to replace Petry or an Upgrade on Savard
Hughes has said he's actively pursuing RD options which to me says PHI trade for Ellis
I think thats what clearing this cap has been about and PHI needs to dump Ellis who's been built around by the new GM
PHI has no cap and 14m in Couturier and Ellis coming off IR where only moving JVR and Hayes or Provorov would clear
enough cap outright to bring them back and sign 2 players to have 23/23 needed

I think you'll hear it announced sooner then later as i think Hughes is just waiting for Carey Price's Doctors to say whether another Surgery is needed.
Faced his 2nd set back in 6 months and IMO will not play this year if ever again clearing up more then enough Cap for Ellis and half what you need for PLD
