Feels like the Jackets would sooner pay a bit to get rid of the full cap hit than retain any money on Nyquist.

Being a cap team, yeah that can have a huge impact on what they can do now and in the future. I've looked at moves that would take them with 25K of the cap that don't involve salary retention

Future as in later this year. Jarmo has still been pursuing another defenseman apparently so that's something he would need that cap space for.

It's got a better chance than most, particularly if other moves don't pan out, but it's still dubious.
