i’d do it and then just bury poolman in the AHL. i did the buyout calculator and the savings aren’t big enough to justify the extra years IMO. i also think it’s possible dobson gets a mil or so less on a bridge which could push that decision off another year

I wouldn’t want to make that deal cause Hogslander is coming off a rough year. Take out Poolman and I’d understand ur logic.

Who would you have in place of poolman on the roster?

Canucks shouldn’t be giving up on Höglander. Poolman isn’t a big deal for us. Holmstrom is another winger who is worse than Höglander. Rather just keep what we have

I didn’t like when Lou took Holmstrom in 2019. But I liked how Holmstrom finished the year in Bridgeport. I think having him in the AHL when he was 18 hurt his development.

He may not make the NHL for another year but there r lots of guys who enter the league young like Daniel Sprong and never figure it out. Holmstrom has speed and enough skill to be an impactful middle six winger. Patience is the key here.

As much as it pains me to admit it I have to say Lou is better at drafting then he gets credit for. At the very least he can make the easy pick like Raty or Odelius. Dufour looks like he has legit talent and both Bolduc and Holmstrom look like decent players.

He posts a lot of trades where he takes on a mediocre asset to get a good young player. Personally I think you can’t do that when you are trying to win, but he’s consistent. I’ll give him that.

When you are trying to win and have the cap space , it is definitely a good idea to take on a bad contract for a good young player on an ELC

Holmstrom will probably be a decent 3rd liner. Dufour is nothing special and the odds of Bolduc playing 200 games in the NHL are not high.

Lou’s last two drafts have been very good. Raty and Odelius have a lot of upside and a high floor.

I agree in theory. But I think you are sometimes too willing to take back a bad asset for a young player. The Mrazek trades u proposed always made me feel like you weren’t getting enough.

I like Dufour’s ability whenever I watch him. Smart player with positional versatility. His skating looks ok when I watch him. I just think he is a late bloomer. I’m not saying his ceiling is an all star level talent but I like him.

Mrazek was done to get sandin, who is significantly better than Romanov who we gave up a 1st for . I like Romanov, just saying .

Holmstrom had injury issues his first couple years and plays on a defense first AHL team. Now that he’s healthy he looks like a very good skater. I could c him playing higher in the lineup for that reason.

I personally didn’t like the deal, but I understand that they overpaid cause of his relationship with Sorokin. If you had asked me Romanov’s value before the draft I probably would’ve said he’s worth Beauvillier. It was a weird move and idk if Montreal had the leverage to justify Lou giving up that return. I think they were desperate to get Dach and they might’ve been willing to send 26 back to make it happen.

Honestly, this is a deal that I can get behind. Maybe making the 3rd into a 2nd rounder would make Vancouver accept immediately but the premise of the deal makes sense

I see Dufours ceiling as cal clutterbuck (in his prime) . 3rd line winger with a great shot. Great value for 5th rd pick, but nothing to get too excited about

Odelius is exciting because his floor in the NHL is a 2nd pairing D. He could potentially play with Dobson on the 1st pair one day , but more likely he’s a #3 defenseman.

The sky’s the limit for Raty. Another guy with a high floor (3C) with a 1C ceiling but most likely scenario he tops out as a 25-25 guy on the 2nd line

He just doesn’t have any skills that are close to elite which is why I have a hard time projecting him above a 3rd liner

Isles overpaid, but Romanov will be a solid 2nd pair D

Apparently isles checked in on Romanov earlier in the offseason and Hughes asked for “Beauvillier and multiple picks”

You keep your expectations low which I appreciate. I don’t love the Dufour to Clutterbuck comparison cause Cal is a better skater but he is a worse playmaker and doesn’t have the same offensive talent Dufour does.

With Holmstrom I get why you say he is a third line talent, but he kind of gives me Niederreiter vibes. Raty reminds me a lot of Kadri but idk which version of Kadri he reminds me of lol.

Hughes is a clown for asking for that. Lou shouldn’t have listened to him. But I could see Romanov breaking out in NY cause it’s going to be a very easy environment for him to play in. He’s young and he can skate. I can buy into that.
