Sens Decline,

Zub is Chatbots preferred partner, and is better than Barrie, to begin with.
We will keep him and his low cap hit
Sens wouldn't even do this one for one.

No thanks from Isles, no reason to increase the cap on 4th line players.

Zub > Barrie.

Disagreed, they are completely opposite players. But Zub is not a superior player

This is a hockey trade based on organizational want / need. EDM needs defense first defenders and cap space. OTT has a rumored desire for an offensive / PP dman.

Furthermore, Zub is a pending UFA. If OTT does not feel they can get a deal done it wouldn't surprise me to see him dealt as the did with Brown.

Everyone hates Barrie and disregards the good that he brings to an organization, OTT would certainly benefit on the PP by adding Barrie. Additionally if paired with a defensive minded dman (perhaps Holden) and played in a 3rd pair spot the on-ice numbers were solid.

If you're moving players with higher cap hits in a flat cap environment you either a)have to make sure the player with the higher cap hit is better than the player you're acquiring(recent example: Cam Talbot for Filip Gustavsson) ; b)have to be filling a strong need for that team while not taking away from their depth (example: Matheson for Petry); or c) throwing in a sweetener to get the team to eat the extra salary they're taking off your hands (example: every 3rd round pick in a trade with retention).

Barrie for Zub & a 4th doesn't do that - even if Ottawa values Barrie as an offensive RHD I can't see them trading away the guy who was their top pair RHD this summer to bring him in - they're trying to upgrade Zaitsev or Hamonic in addition to keeping Zub. Ottawa passes.

For the second trade, easy no. Edmonton obviously needs to move money to be cap compliant, and the Islanders would be doing you a favor by taking an extra $1.25M off your hands this year and next. What's the incentive for them to help you out like this?
