Puljujarvi Trade in and out at Deadline - Cap Space Luxury

Created by: slapshot30003
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 4, 2022
Published: Aug. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Chicago can acquire at least 2 more 2nd rounders by simply making a similar trade to what you see here and retaining around $3m in salary on two trades involving the same player. Gotta use cap space to get more picks for what should be a deep draft. This should be a good draft to build a deep roster around in 3-5 years.

Thoughts?
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Edmonton Needs some more sand paper to get through playoffs. He can offer that while adding in the scoring element that he can do. Should round out the roster while opening up cap room.
EDM
  1. Domi, Max
Additional Details:
Retain 50% Salary
2.
CHI
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
This can truly be any team, but it shouldn't be a stretch to think Chicago could acquire another 2nd or more. Heck, they could keep him if they wanted to.
NJD
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
Additional Details:
Chicago retains 50% salary

Oilers pass on Domi. There is no room on the left side of the roster, whatsoever. The Oilers need Right shot wingers.

That and trading a 6'4 player for a 5'10 player 'because they need more sandpaper' is a complete joke. Especially when said 6'4 player is one of the better forecheckers in the game.

Ive given up on arguing PJ's size as an asset... all i get is "he doesnt even hit" as a rebuttal.

Do you think the Oilers would be interested in Tyler Johnson? Assuming he is healthy and maybe some salary retention?

Nope, we have Yamo, no need for another undersized winger, even if he is a right shot.

Let me propose an alternate scenario for you (not saying the Oilers do this one either)

Edmonton trades JP with 50% retained to NJD for 2nd round pick

Edmonton trades NJD 2nd round pick to CHI for Domi with 50% retained.

JP has out performed Domi on a per game basis the last two years, and has the same cap hit/amount of retained salary, but let’s just say their values are about the same (JP is more valuable imo). Now notice how in both scenario’s, both EDM and NJD get the same players at the same cap hit, so why in your scenario do you get an extra 2nd from Edmonton???

Okay, wow. Clearly those people don't watch hockey. And you know who doesn't hit? Max Domi - he's among the lowest in the league for hits.

Chicago is not wasting 2 retention slots on Domi and JP.

Some solid hitting is nice to have and PJ definitely could do a little bit more of it. But just being a big heavy body that is hard to push off the puck is valuable to have. With Yamo playing in the top 6 the oilers definitely dont need anymore undersized wingers in the mix, wouldnt even want Domi at half retained.
