Going for it all but at a cost

Created by: HockeyScotty
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 3, 2022
Published: Aug. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Barzal returns to his B.C. roots in a swap for JT Miller, partial retention, and future draft picks. He is the better player in the deal; both have 1 year left on deals but Barzal is also RFA; hence the return.
NYI get a top line player and more affordable contract.

Then trade LW with Detroit straight up with Bertuzzi for Beauvillier who has 2 years of team control as is younger; thus the partial retention on that deal as well. Detroit gets younger and has an asset under team control for 2 years.

Then the UFA signing of Kadri comes in to complete the roster and playoff hopes renew in Long Island. The identity of this whole team is hard work, 200' game, and can roll out 3 scoring lines along with the grinders. Keep the goalie duo intact to ensure a deep playoff run is in the cards.

Miller and Bertuzzi extensions can get paid for by Varlamov's contract coming off next year then a new backup goalie can be found in the $1-2 million range.

As nice as it would be, much rather see the assets spent on defense

Bertuzzi with $1,500,000 retained, Will cost far more then Beauvillier. Not even close.

And oh FYI Good luck getting Kadri for anything less then $8,500,000 to $9,000,000 per he's not signing for less then $7,000,000 pretty much guarantee you that.

It appears that the only high quality defenseman on the trade market is Chychrun right now.
Connor Murphy (RHD) from Chicago would be a good add; but no rumors on his market value at the moment (injured as well)

Otherwise it's a bit of a gamble:
Ethan Bear (Carolina)
1 of Walker/Roy (LA)
1 from Toronto (Holl or Sandin, ?)

With Florida, Dallas, Edmonton, Carolina (needs LHD), and a few other playoff teams in the mix of defense it's not a buyer's market.

Few left in the UFA cupboard either.

Miller plays with much better linemates both EV and on the PP. Quality of teammates affects production

Detroit is about the only decent place he can get that and they probably wouldn't go for that much term (Anaheim, Buffalo, Arizona, Chicago are the only others with the Cap space); he would be like Klingberg on a 1 year deal and try again next year.

If he wants 6 or 7 years that is probably the contract he will get.

Isles owners would never allow the Barzal trade to happen. He’s the face of the isles and there’s a high chance Barzal has a better overall impact than Miller next season. That trade would be go down as one of the worst in isles history.

This team misses the playoffs for sure

The isles play a very defense heavy game. Put Barzal on basically anyother team and he's easily a 90 plus point guy. Also, Miller had a career year. Yoh honestly think he'll do it again this season? I mean, the guy was a career 50ish point guy till two seasons ago.

It's the fact Vancouver is already extremely deep at Center if it was 1 for 1 i'd do it but once we start adding more high quality pieces it makes very little sense to do it, if it was for Dobson it's a different story

Barzal is likely a 70-80 point guy i highly doubt he has a 40 point swing with a more offensive system, Miller has broken out since has played in Vancouver if this trade was 3 years ago sure it gets laughed out of the room, how ever it's not, Miller's value to day is of a 99 point 2 way power foward center that plays at every end of the ice, like i said i'd do the trade 1 for 1, wouldn't add too it, just makes zero sense from our pov

Alright guy, whatever you say. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I can not wait for Miller to walk for nothing.

I do. I think Vancouver will be a playoff team. Get kicked in the first round. And Miller walks in the off-season.

While that's true, i still don't see the big benefit for moving this many quality pieces for at best a lateral move, would rather wait to see who becomes available

Vancouver is probably a playoff team but i highly doubt they don't trade him at TDL if they don't have a contract in place in fact management as already said they will trade him if that's the case

I couldn't imagine Vancouver being in a playoff spot and moving him. Regardless of the contract situation. I feel that's just a spit in the fans faces.

Sometimes teams have to make tough choices, if that's whats best for the franchise then that's what they will do

Wth does team success have anything to do with it? They got to those ECFs bc of shutdown defense and elite goaltending. Its not like they were busy scoring their way to the final 4.

Scoring wise no, Having Tavers on that years team really helped him score 85, he is about an 80 point guy though, Rob schremp's opinion really has little value lmao

a team that reached the ECF should not be brining down a players point totals by 30-40 points
