Description

Would be a great cap scenario to start the year in for the Canucks. If they pull this trade off or a veraion of it, then waive Dickinson and Poolman prior to the start of the season they can get as close to the cap as possible before putting Ferland on LTIR to maximize their LTI relief.

I think most would agree neither waived player would get claimed..

Thoughts on the trade? I think is pretty close in value. Canucks get a younger center that fits with their cores timeline, fill a positional need on RD and a mid to late 1st. Canes get a difference maker to push for a cup. Can also easily resign the player. With Patches now out for 6+ months as well they need another top 6 piece.

Miller to Carolina is done, Necas is signed and will not be traded along with a first for one year of Miller.

The only way i would trade for Miller is if Pacioretty really is out until the all star break.

Canes easily have the space to resign Miller.. Not sure how thats being overlooked. Now that Patches is out long term this trade soldifies the Canes top six and improves their powerplay. This trade also leaves them space to add more depth pieces for this season and bring Patches back for Playoffs.

Why would they pay a premium price for Miller who will be 30 next year and coming off of a career outlier year? Only 2 seasons in his career over 60 points, he’s not a fantastic star. Likelyhood he repeats or gets better is slim. Necas is cheaper, much younger, not a rental, and likely will get better.
