Description

Hey everyone, was so excited by the engagement on my first post I wanted to share some more.

For those who don't know we, I'm a very low level scout/analyst for the Oilers and work in hockey ops. I mainly do pro (NHL) scouting and pure analytics. So that's making judgements on the eye test and making judgements purely on numbers with no opinion. I then submit my analytics with the yee test providing the context Kenny and the boys need to make decisions.

I'm going to be focusing here on one trade scenario that has been explored at the office recently.

We pickup a 3rd line LW who is an amazing PK guy. Is tall and has shown flashes of an upcoming breakout season. Anderson is a lot like a Callahan type player thing of him as our cheaper alternative to Connor Brown. Holl is a PK specialist with a big body who can hit.

Dallas already signed Miller. Don’t have cap space or roster space for Ceci and he isn’t want we would be looking for if we were looking anyways

I get what you're saying but literally anyone is an upgrade over Miller. Should've just left it at no cap space.

Luck. Reached out for internships during university got one with the Panthers. (Maths Major). Got connected from there.

I get that sentiment. There may be more moves coming than you expect. Dallas needs a RD, they don't want Miro or Hanley on the right.

They seem to want a stable guy to put beside Miro.

I think the core idea what to accomplish with the trades is fine. Also seems to work out the cap issues giving roster flexibility for 22 guys.

But that's coming from a guy who dislikes Puljujarvi.

That bottom six is looking a little weak, and I'd argue the defense is not really improved in this scenario either.

Says who? Every front office interview I’ve seen says they’re fine with Miro on the right. Doubt they do anything but sign Robertson and Oettinger. Hanley is the 7D or AHL. Adding anybody would push Harley out which makes zero sense

If he’s healthy he’s a decent 3RD to play with Harley. I prefer Miller as a UFA to giving up a pick for Holl or Barrie. Barrie only makes sense if Nill wants a replacement for Klinger as the worst defensive even strength player on the team. Pass
