Toews Plus

Created by: Rooney
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 23, 2022
Published: Aug. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a completely different team than I normally make...not sure how many Jets fans will like it but hey, it's something new.

I also realize that values in the trades may be off so feel free to give me some constructive feedback.

You could also replace Steel with one of Kovacevic or Gawanke who might be lost to waivers instead.

Thoughts?

While the Devils are getting the slightly better player at a position of more need, they’re gaining cap space so the second trade piece shouldn’t be as good as a 2nd round pick

LD is not a position of need for NJ

Toews would be alright, but if the Jets need to give up a roster player for him I think they should pass. I also don't think he can handle 2C anymore, so would be better suited as a 3C, but then he is too expensive for that. It's interesting though.

It’s not really but Dillon can fit in on behind Graves and Siegenthaler while I mostly see Johnson as a healthy acratch

Toews to WPG makes sense but even at 5M, the cost should be pretty low. Like less than what you've shown IMO. I mean Toews is a shell of his former self and still costs a lot. I think unless another team retains the other 50%, there won't be a huge market for him. Toews at 5M is still rich. Toews at 2.5M however could probably be a valuable asset.

I think the Hawks can get a 2nd for Toews with that retention.

Bring in a 3rd team to retain 50% on the rest of Toews deal and he'd be a great add.

Brendan Smith is solid 3rd pair guy with Okhotiuk as a younger option there, Luke Hughes coming the following year. Yeah we don't need a $4M bottom pair LD.

Smith or Bahl could also fit behind those two. This move adds salary, which is a non-starter. Better to get rid of Johnsson for next to nothing or just let him get claimed off waivers.

True but they could flip him. If they do get him he is a decently valued piece. But I see what you mean they don’t need him too much. But giving up a 2nd in the process isn’t even close to worth it

I figured LD was a position of need that's why I chose the Devils so my bad! I figured Smith would be the extra with Bahl, Okhotiuk & Walsh (RHD) spending another year in the AHL.

Fair enough my friend. I figured he'd still have some value even though I agree even 5.25m is too much. It's only for one year though at least but still!

That could be a possibility. If its a Johnsson-Dillion swap 1 for 1, Devils should do it. With the 2nd round pick attach, its too much for the Devils to give up

Bahl, Okhotiuk and Walsh are likely competing for 3LD to start season.
Hughes, Nemec, Mukhamadullin will need spots within year or so.

Bahl probably isn't ready, to be honest. Still got some issues in controlling the puck.
Okhotiuk is probably as polished as he'll ever be, which is physical bottom-pair crease-clearer.
Walsh is probably ready (and could join his college line-mate Marino on bottom-pair).
