RHD MTL

Created by: simonveilleux
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 30, 2022
Published: Aug. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Forget the short term contract for Dach, Kent Hughes will go for longer term around 4M and try to get that Jesperi Kotkaniemi kind of contract. That fits his mentality and the risks he's willing to take.

Trading for Mayfield since we need a RHD that can play big minutes (and even flip it to a contender a TDL...who knows).

5$4,000,000
Trades
MTL
  1. Mayfield, Scott
  2. 2023 4th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
1 year left on his contract, will probably loose him at the end of the year. MTL needs a RHD and NYI could use some punch on their LW. Given that we're adding a decent prospect + a 2nd pick (which might be at the very beginning of 2nd round.) so that it makes sens for NYI to eat the cap for Hoffman.
NYI
  1. Hoffman, Mike
  2. Norlinder, Mattias
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Hoffman no longer fits, Norlinder is still a good prospect and a 2nd from MTL has value.

The Islanders have no shortage of mediocre overpaid forwards, so why not add more lol. Fans of all other metro teams say yes lol

The Isles? I bet they say nyet.

Easy pass from the Islanders. First off, there's no one immediately NHL-ready behind Mayfield on the RD depth chart, so it's going to take an overpay to convince them to create a hole in their lineup. Norlinder & a 2nd by itself would likely not be enough to make the move.

Secondly, the Isles already have Josh Bailey. They have no need for another over-30 winger with only a passing interest in defense. Asking them to eat that 2x$4.5M would easily cost a 1st rounder coming back to the Island - they don't really have the cap space to even take the deal on without moving something else out.

Nope, he spent last season in Sweden after being the only guy in the org to not get the vaccine; he didn't play all that well, to boot! Pushing back against the GM and not producing at a lower level have his stock at a pretty low point right now.

Next guy up behind Mayfield would probably be Grant Hutton - a now 27-year-old former UDFA who was acceptable in sheltered minutes for 16 games last year, but not necessarily a guy I think is ready to play 17-20 minutes every night the way Mayfield does. It's really a spot with no real depth for the Isles, so here's to hoping everyone stays relatively healthy this year!

So you're basically sending a 1st (Early as hell 2nd) for a pending UFA while we're rebuilding just to plug a hole for 82 games?!

man, if anyone wants to prove how big of an upgrade Romanov/Salo is vs. Chara/Greene last year (or show off how good Adam Pelech is), look at Hutton's line combo numbers on Dobber's Hockey. I know they're small sample sizes but holy hell:

29:07 with Pelech: 24 shots for vs. 10 against; 38 chances for vs. 21 against; 1 goal for, 2 against(lol isles)

99:34 with Greene/Chara: 30 SF vs. 62 SA; 63 CF vs. 120 CA; 2 goals for, 3 goals against (thanks Soroky!)

Can sound weird at first, but a guy like Mayfield (who's 6'5 and really physical) can has immense value at the TDL.
You can flip Mayfield for a late first like Hughes managed to do it for Chariot.

I actually like Hutton as a third pair option. We would be having a very different conversation about him if he had been drafted tho. Dude has the size and decent skating ability.

For one Mayfield will be getting a first think Chariot trade but probs more since he is better and cheaper
Hoffman is a cap dump is JVR 1 year left and Bailey 1 year left cost a 1st to dump so will Hoffman
Hoffman was never offered a PTO by Lou when we need a scorer badly so no way Lou even gets him
Norlinder might be a first needs to be included. If we are taking Hoffman either you take a bad contract like Palms or give us another first or A/B+ prospect
