He will likely be priced out of Colorado no matter what. They have to re-sign mackinnon the year prior and then rantanen the year after. Girard, Manson, byram all still in the blue line..

They’d probably move girard to get the cap space to keep him. Either way I doubt he signs a team friendly deal if he hits the open market.

i assume they move girard to keep him but possible they don’t considering toews is old and will be looking for term and girard is cost controlled. that said he’s still getting 8+

6.5 would be a pretty good deal for Toews

Is Klimovich out of future picture?

That doesn’t get Toews, on the open open market with increases in the cap a top 10 dman is getting a whole lot more than.

Out of curiosity, why did you put in Severson as a potential rightshot D via UFA or trade? He's like a younger Myers that is overpaid.

    OEL $8.25M
    Carlson $8.0M
    Pietrangelo $8.8M
    Nurse $9.25M
    Jones $9.5M
    Spurgeon $7.25M
    Vlassic $7M
    Trouba $8.0M

He isn’t signing a contract that Justin Faulk signed a couple of years ago. It’s ok to make a mistake and admit it, because you know it’s ridiculous to think he is signing for the around the same as Lindholm, Faulk, McDonagh two further years into the future. C’mon man that’s silly.

The only 3 players above you listed that signed their deal at age 30 is pietrangelo, spurgeon and vlasic. Every other player was 26-28 when they signed. And why is someone like McDonough a bad comparable? Or krug or lindholm? Toews is very good but he’s not a number 1 and no team will pay him to be a number 1. 6.5 is probably low but I think Vlasic, spurgeon, McDonough, Ellis, ekholm, pulock, lindholm, Muzzin, are all better comps. High-end two way guys who are not going to be the most used d-man on the team.

Yeah toews scored a lot of points this year, but he had the 5th most secondary assists of any defenseman in the salary cap era in one season. Literally 60% of his points were secondary assists.

It’s likely that his point totals are lower over the next two years and he will of course continue to play second fiddle to makar. There is also a very real chance he will be the 3rd most used Dman on the team in the final year of his deal (this depends on how byram progresses and while it’s not probable, it is possible)

Again, 6.5 is probably low but it’s not a huge underpay against comparables

It’s really low. Those numbers will in some cases be half a DECADE old, and the cap will have risen 5-7% conservatively by the time he is a FA. It’s so low it’s just not realistic.
