To be honest, I’d do this as a leafs fan. I think it’s fair for both teams.

TBH, I kind of like it. I don't think Sandin will take 1.25 and I don't see the Leafs retaining on the Tavares contract....

You mean "how to anger Avs fans". Horrible trade for Colorado.

Yeah if Sandin would take $1.25m he'd probably already be signed. Though maybe he'd take that number on a one year deal if he was on a team where he could play in the top 4.

I read the title and was curious, when I saw the trade, I knew that the OP was wrong. To me the trade doesn't make sense for Toronto but I know a lot of Leaf fans would be delighted as some have expressed already. Avs fans are going to hate this trade a lot more, although it's not a bad idea for them if it didn't complicate resigning MacKinnon+Byram.

He probably would want at least 1.4m with that guarantee.

JT's cap hit is what Girard(5m) and Newhook bridge(3m) will come in around. Doesn't seem too complicated. Who knows with Sandin.

Yeah, it seems feasible. It really just depends though on if MacKinnon would be satisfied with like 13m (his 6.3m+EJ's 6m+another 400k, that comes from the cap increase let's say, then they can get a 750k replacement for EJ). The problem would come with if Byram needs 4m+. It's doable but they will have to have a few more budget contracts.

None of us really know(Dater, even less), I will take Mack at his word when said he will take a discount on his next deal. He cares about legacy not lambos. If it's a guy like Scheif/JT/Kane/etc, I think it becomes an easier discussion to stay closer to 11-12 range than 13+. I have a funny feeling he has a couple of deals on the table tied to who they bring in or not. I hear its league min if its Sidney /s Sticking Out Tongue

If it's Crosby maybe MacKinnon takes the Crosby deal, 2.9mx8.
